Ever wondered where cabin crew go to take a break during long haul flights?
We all need a rest during a mammoth shift, but unlike the rest of us, flight attendants can hardly go for a stroll outside or even browse social media. Thankfully, one airline’s member of staff has revealed what he does to take time out during a hard day at work.
Taking to TikTok, Connor Meecham shared a video detailing where he goes for a nap – in a confined space with little room to manouever whatsoever, let alone stand up. Sleeping in his uniform, the Brit has a tiny living space to store his belongings, with an additional area behind a curtain to wind down.
“Making my bed, sleeping for two hours, waking up and then serving 200 breakfasts 10 minutes just after I woke up,” Connor penned in a caption. It prompted one TikTok user to ask him: “Question I’ve always wanted to know – do you have to sleep in your uniform? I’d feel minging. I’d have to have PJs!”
Connor explained in response: “It depends how long I get! If it’s 45 minutes or something I’ll just try and have a nap fully clothed but if it’s over 2 hours I’ll get completely changed and into comfies.”
A fellow TikTok user asked: “Is it unlikely that turbulence is going to affect your nap? That’s all that runs through my head when I see these videos sleeping then get thrown out of bed by a little bit of turbulence.”
Connor explained: “It happens quite a lot… obviously it’s not as bad that you’d go flying out your bunk! I love a little bit of turbulence whilst I’m trying to sleep like a baby being cradled.”
Another flight attendant added: “This is why first break isn’t that bad, nothing worse than waking up straight into breakfast service!” Connor agreed: “Obsessed with first [break].”
And a second opened up on her own experiences: “The worst is the way home night flight and you wake up thinking you are in your own bed… then realise.”
Elsewhere in the comments section, some of Connor’s 24,000 followers admitted they were “fascinated” by the insight into his working life. “As someone who is absolutely petrified of flying, this fascinates me,” one person declared.
A second penned: “When I was a kid to my teens I always thought This was such a glamours industry.” A third wrote: “I have to say this looks so comfortable and I bet it’s warm and snug too.”
Whilst a fourth admitted: “This is the point when I question my life choices.”
