Cleaning blocked drains is a chore many dread, but one influencer is making the task easier with a natural solution.
Judy Gilroy, known as @judygilroy on Instagram, recently shared her go-to hack with her 36,100 followers, capturing their attention with a simple, effective method.
In her latest video, Gilroy addressed the common frustration of blocked bathroom drains.
“Blocked drains? Try this! Nothing drives me crazy like blocked bathroom drains,” she wrote in the caption.
“I discovered this great hack to clean them naturally, and it works a charm! Best part? It’s so simple and quick to do.”
Gilroy’s method involves a classic combination of baking soda and vinegar.
She explains that viewers should “see a fizz in the sink” as the two ingredients react.
To maximise the effectiveness, she advised covering the drain with a cloth for 10-15 minutes to allow the mixture to work its magic.
After this, she recommended flushing the drain with hot or boiling water.
“You can just use the hot tap, although I used the kettle here,” she noted.
To finish, Gilroy suggested squeezing some lemon juice to eliminate any lingering odours, making this hack not only functional but also fresh-smelling.
Many of her followers applauded the tip.
One user commented: “Such a great hack!” while another added: “Love this tip!”
A third noted their previous experience with baking soda and the importance of the vinegar and lemon juice combo for lasting freshness.
However, not everyone agreed on the use of boiling water.
One commenter cautioned: “Never put boiling water down drains, it ruins the pipes!”
This concern was echoed by experts at WP Plumbing, who warn that subjecting pipes to boiling water can weaken joints over time, leading to leaks and costly repairs.
They recommend using warm water instead to avoid damage.
