After six seasons, Peaky Blinders is going the Downton Abbey and Deadwood route by continuing its TV series storyline with a big-screen movie.

Asked whether he would star, Cillian Murphy told Desert Island Discs he would be “totally” up for it.

The Oscar-winner said: “I have always said that if Knight delivers a script that I know he can deliver, because he is such a phenomenal writer, I’ll be there.

“If we want to watch 50-year-old Tommy Shelby, let’s do it.”

And now Knight himself has confirmed the news that shooting is set to begin this autumn.

Speaking with Birmingham World, he said of Murphy: “He definitely is returning for it. We’re shooting it in September just down the road in Digbeth.”

Praising his Oppenheimer Oscar win, the Peaky Blinders creator said: “It was so deserved. I mean he’s brilliant, and he’s such a great human being and he leads the line when we’re shooting and he’s so level headed and straight forward. He deserves everything he gets.”

Peaky Blinders the movie will be set during World War II and a release date is yet to be announced.
