He was heartlessly thrown from a moving car by his owners who couldn’t be bothered to care for him – and now, he’s in desperate need of a second chance.
Poor Tommy suffered a series of injuries due to the brutal abandonment and has been experiencing seizures, likely a result of the head trauma sustained when he was tossed from the vehicle.
A statement from Austin Pets Alive! recalled the horrifying incident: “Tommy was thrown from a car and a community member witnessed the horrific scene!
“Luckily, someone was there to step in when the person in the car failed this sweet puppy. This quick-thinking individual alerted animal services who brought the puppy into an emergency clinic to receive immediate treatment overnight.
“There, seizure activity was noted, likely due to head trauma. This cream-coloured pup was transferred to Austin Animal Center in the morning, and then because of his medical need, was pled to APA! yesterday.”
Despite his traumatic ordeal, Tommy is already showing signs of recovery, displaying a “playful” demeanour and a healthy appetite.
The statement continues: “We’re seeing that despite experiencing such a traumatic experience, Tommy still has a fervour for eating – he licks his bowl clean every time, and has some of that puppy playfulness in him!”.
“Our medical team has tied some bells to his collar to help monitor for seizures, is providing anti-seizure and pain management medication, along with the typical intake needs for a puppy, like dewormers.”
Following the sharing of his tragic tale on Facebook, the rescue centre has been inundated with donations towards his treatment – and once he reaches full fitness, his rehoming process will commence.
“Though there may be some individuals in the community that make choices that cause pain, we’re grateful that there are more well-intentioned and loving people who join us in standing up for those who need us,” the statement adds.
Responding to the post, one user remarked: “That’s awful who does that. Thank you for saving Tommy. Praying for his recovery and hopefully a loving family to show Tommy the wonderful life he deserves.”
Another user commented: “Heartbreaking. Wishing Tommy the best life he can have, he deserves it.”
A third user declared: “I hope they got the license plate number to turn this owner in. Such a sweet puppy sorry you had to go through this.
“Glad that someone was there to rescue you and take you in to get medical treatment. You will find a home soon.”
One more user stated: “Poor baby, hope his injuries are treatable and he heals quickly.
“Then he can find his true forever family. I hope God punishes the creeps that hurt this precious animal. God bless him and keep him safe.”
Tommy, currently residing in Austin, Texas, USA, is on the lookout for a temporary home where he can recover his strength before beginning the adoption process.
