One wide-fit black boot from M&S has more than 900 five-star reviews on the website – and customers are loving them. The Wide Fit Leather Buckle Ruched Ankle Boots, £79, are very popular and are currently in demand.

The low-wedge heel has “innovative Insolia Flex® technology, [which] helps to keep the ball of your foot in the correct position for improved comfort all day long”, says the manufacturer – and most customers agree.

One shopper said: “Very comfortable boots. I don’t usually have wide fit but decided to try them, so I could wear socks when it’s cold… good value; would recommend.”

Another posted to the M&S website: “My better half loves these boots. The wide fit makes them very comfortable to wear. They are well made and stylish.”

Somebody else noted: “Lovely boots, look good and feel sturdy enough for the winter and comfortable for long walks.”

One fan gushed: “These boots are just perfect! They are extremely comfy – just what I was looking for! I’d recommend them to all my friends.”

Another reviewer said: “This is the third pair of these boots purchased by my wife – I guess that says it all! She finds them to be an excellent fit and experience tells us they are hard-wearing. As an extra bonus – they look great.”

Some, however, have been left disappointed; one stated: “When I first put these boots on I thought they were so comfortable…

“But after wearing them two or three times, the leather is so hard at the top of the boot it has made the top of my ankles bleed… and now it hurts to wear them.”

With thousands of people commenting on the M&S boots, the popular shoes have ranked 4.5 stars out of five stars, which shows there are many happy customers.

Alternative boots worth considering, depending on your budget, include a pair from Clarks and another from Next. The Matron Ella Ankle Boot from Clarks, £90, has relaxed ruched styling and soft, supple leather uppers.

Gathering more than 500 reviews, the boots have scored a reassuring score of 4.7 out of five (based on average customer ratings) for their level of comfort.

Elsewhere, Next offers Pavers Casual Biker Boots for £45 that comes in Black, Blue, Brown, Grey and Red. One happy customer wrote: “The best boots; the most comfortable pair of boots I’ve ever worn.”

Although one reviewer did say the boots were “not as comfortable” as she expected them to be.
