It can sometimes be tricky to remove tough stains from toilet seats. A lot of homeowners are frustrated by the stubborn marks and are left wondering how to make their toilet seat shine again.
Experts have shared a quick and easy hack to get rid of the marks on social media. The 65p hack was shared on the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips group on Facebook, which now has over 500,000 followers, and leaves toilet seats “spotless”. It came after a member of the group asked: “How to get the yellow strains off underneath toilet seat please.”
The question ammassed over 400 responses but one stood out from the crowd. Many people agreed that mixing bicarbonate of soda with either white vinegar, water or lemons was the most effective way to clean toilet seats.
You can currently buy the Stockwell & Co. Bicarbonate Of Soda (200g) for 65p at Tesco and Aldi. Cleaners can mix this with water to leave their toilet seats spotless.
One commenter said on Facebook: “White vinegar and some Bicarbonate of soda mix to a paste leave on for 20 mins mine came up spotless.”
A second agreed: “White vinegar and baking powder mix into a paste, leave for hour then wash off use a toothbrush for the edges etc.”
A third put: “Bicarb and water, mix as paste leave on 10mins then scrub and should come off.”
Others said that bicarbonate of soda and lemonds works as the best combination. They also advised to use gloves while using the mixture.
One person explained: “I mostly got them off with bicarbonate of soda sprinkled on half a lemon and then scrubbing it with the half lemon. sounds ridiculous but it did work on the seat plastic but not on the soft plastic stopper things. Also wear gloves!”
Another commented: “Cut a lemon in half. Dip into bicarbonate of soda. Rub into underneath of toilet seat. You will need to rub it for about 10 minutes. Wipe off with damp cloth. Do this once a week. No more yellow seat.”
