Many people will still be hard at work, scrubbing and sweeping every corner of their house as part of a big spring clean. A huge tidy up isn’t always easy and there are plenty of tasks that most people would very much love to avoid.
And when it comes to getting rid of tough stains in the bathtub, that can be an absolute nightmare. Reaching for harsh chemicals and sacrificing backs to tackle those stubborn marks. However, there is a much more simple hack to get tubs sparkling and a cleaning expert has revealed it all.
According to Nigel Bearman, cleaning expert at Daily Poppins, this one natural ingredient can cut through grime “instantly”, will leave bathrooms smelling amazing, and the best thing yet, it is super cheap. Nigel shares the one main ingredient that you need to make your bathroom amazing is grapefruit.
He explained: “Grapefruit contains citric acid which helps to quickly break down soap scum and grime found in baths and showers. It acts as a natural cleaning agent and dissolves through tough stains while eliminating germs and bacteria.”
The fruit which can be bought for as little as 55p in Tesco works well with salt to help scrub any dirt away, and the best thing is you can use this hack around the whole bathroom. So if your tiles need some freshing up, and your taps need a shine, then this will work just as well.
He adds: “The salt works as an abrasive to help scrub the grime away while you use it, while the grapefruit uses its natural acids and antibacterial properties to break down the buildup and leave your bathroom sparkling clean. It’s a simple, eco-friendly solution that gives you a fresh, citrus-scented finish.”
How to use it for effective cleaning:
- Cut the grapfruit in half and sprinkle it with coarse salt (like Epsom or sea salt)
- Take one half of thr grapefruit and lightly scrub it over the surface of your bath and shower
- Let it sit for a few minutes to help the citric acid work even harder on stains (optional)
- Rinse the area with warm water and wipe clean if necessary
You can also make an all-purpose grapefruit spray by squeezing the fruit’s juice into a spray bottle, adding 1-2 tablespoons of vinegar and some warm water, before giving it a good shake.
