My Girl, which hit cinemas in 1992, is a coming-of-age drama which follows the friendship between Vada and Thomas J. Currently available to stream on ITVX at no cost, the film, which has earned the reputation as the ‘most heartbreaking’ movie, has reduced audiences to tears for decades.

Vada is an 11 year old lass residing in Pennsylvania who suffers from hypochondria and becomes fixated with mortality. She begins forming a bond with an unpopular lad called Thomas J who has allergies to “everything”. As time passes, Vada and Thomas J become increasingly close and even experience their first kiss together, reports the Mirror.

Yet disaster strikes and the duo are tragically torn apart, leaving Vada utterly devastated.

My Girl presently holds a rating of 57% on Rotten Tomatoes with many acknowledging it as a “weepy” and critics commended it for its portrayals of mortality and grief.

The picture features Macaulay Culkin as Thomas J whilst Anna Chlumsky portrays Vada.

Jamie Lee Curtis also appeared in the production as Shelly DeVoto, who becomes betrothed to Vada’s father Harry Sultenfuss, portrayed by Dan Aykroyd.

Audiences have revealed how they were left weeping whilst viewing the picture as one commented: “This movie, it punched a deep hole right through my heart, seeing Vada and Thomas’s connection, it captured me, reminded me of my childhood.

“This movie explains the sequences of life and death, but in a mature, heartwarming way. I definitely recommend this movie for all ages, but especially for children going through adolescence. Overall, great movie, 5 stars.”

Another shared: “One of the best favorable movies of time. Great story/film, very sad and moving and funny. The entire cast was amazing.

“Anna Chlumsky and Macaulay Culkin had loving connection. Recommend this one to everyone. It will for sure bring tears to your eyes. My Girl is a have to see.”
