A 13-year-old dog has finally found his forever home after spending four years in a shelter watching his pooch pals come and go as he looked on in hope.

Named Mr Jones, the playful canine lived at the Humane Society of Greater Miami for a total of 1,739 days. During those four years he was adopted on two occasions – only to be returned within a matter of days.

This time, however, he’s been rescued for good with his proud new owner even creating an Instagram account dedicated to their adventures together. “He enjoys the outside a whole lot,” the shelter revealed in a video.

“[He’s] always laying in the sun [and] rubbing himself in the grass, but he’s definitely a cuddle bug that you’ll love to have in your home.” Following his previous setbacks, a sad Mr Jones was given the chance to spend time outdoors by kind TikTok duo Eric and Joey.

The pair would occasionally take him for grooming sessions and fun at the local beach, but were sadly unable to offer him a permanent residence. They did, however, use their platform to promote Mr Jones’ kind and loving behaviour in a bid to secure him a new home.

That day finally came, however, and Eric and Joey were there to witness the moment Mr Jones left the shelter for the final time with his new owner last month. “It’s official!” the pair declared on TikTok while capturing the happy moment on video. “Jones has been adopted and there is no better way to share this news with everyone than on Valentine’s Day!

“We are so grateful he has a beautiful home in Tampa, Florida. On behalf of everyone who has followed along, thank you! And a special thank you to Humane Society Greater Miami for taking care of sweet Mr. Jones for all this time. You are true superheroes.”

Eric and Joey’s clip saw staff at the shelter gather round as “second chance Jones” headed out to rapturous applause. “I kept seeing the video and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, he’s been in there for so long,” his new owner said. “Everybody’s inquiring but nobody’s going to get him – I’m going to get this dog!”

Hundreds of TikTok users responded, many of whom praised Eric and Joey for raising awareness of Mr Jones’ situation. “So happy that Jones won’t have to live out his life in the shelter!” one person said. “God bless his new family. Thank you for bringing awareness and the work you do! YOU BOTH helped save Mr. Jones.”

A second agreed: “Thanks to you guys for putting him out there and making him and his story visible. Thanks to you for helping him get his furever home.” A third exclaimed: “I’ve just watched all the videos with Mr Jones. And I’m so happy he has finally found his home.”

A fourth person gushed: “Jones. You will be able to feel the sunshine on you, feel the grass under your paws. You will feel loved unconditionally. Tears of happiness.” Whilst a fifth said: “This is exactly what I’d spend every penny on if I won the lottery. I’d buy land Montana or Wyoming and give every animal possible the best life ever. I’d rescue everything.”
