Amazon Prime viewers will be pleased to learn that a modern take on a period drama is now streaming on the platform. Fans have hailed it a “masterpiece,” “provocative” and “interesting”, which is an intriguing combination.
It is, of course, Saltburn. The black comedy thriller film was written, directed, and produced by Emerald Fennell. It stars Barry Keoghan, Jacob Elordi, Rosamund Pike, Richard E. Grant, Alison Oliver, Archie Madekwe and Carey Mulligan, and is set in Oxford. The film has been met with mostly positive reviews and is now known as one of the most-streamed films. It was nominated for two Golden Globe Awards and five BAFTA Film Awards.
The film’s synopsis reads: “Academy Award-winning filmmaker Fennell (Promising Young Woman) brings us a beautifully wicked tale of privilege and desire. Struggling to find his place at Oxford University, student Oliver Quick (Keoghan) finds himself drawn into the world of the charming and aristocratic Felix Catton (Elordi), who invites him to Saltburn, his eccentric family’s sprawling estate, for a summer never to be forgotten.”
The film’s raunchy and twisted nature sparked loud reactions from fans. On Rotten Toamtoes, one fan described it as “a well-made, well-acted melodrama that is stylish, provocative and deceptive”.
Another said Saltburn is “truly a masterpiece”, while a different reviewer said “Barry Keoghan killing it as usual. Stunning, awkward, twisted, dark. Put this to the top of your watch list”.
A fourth wrote in their review: “This was the most disturbing but entertaining film I’ve seen in a while. Very disturbing but unique.”
“Such an amazing performance from the entire cast, great cinematography and interesting storyline! This movie is entertaining and always makes me think,” added another.
Another fan of the film said: “Wildly messed up. Shocking and upsetting. A good movie, albeit incredibly gross at times. Barry plays a really good villain. His ability to be weird is unmatched. Cinematography was PRIME!”
“This was a rollercoaster. This film is definitely for everyone. A great cast and definitely a diabolical twist. I definitely recommend it,” a final reviewer added.
Saltburn is available to stream on Amazon Prime now.
