The Princess of Wales‘s jewellery collection is undoubtedly the subject of envy for many around the world.

Princess Kate, who is celebrating her 43rd birthday today, has slowly been accumulating quite a collection of spectacular jewels.

Some of them have been bought for the princess by her husband, the Prince of Wales, while others were loaned or given to her from the royal vaults.

From glittering tiaras to eye-catching brooches and diamond necklaces, the future Queen is no stranger to making her outfits a bit more poignant and special.

Here, a jewellery expert looks at her top nine glittering accessories and their astronomical value.

Princess Diana’s engagement ring – £300,000

Perhaps Kate’s most iconic piece of jewellery is her stunning engagement ring which once belonged to William’s late mother, Princess Diana.

The glittering ring features a 12-carat Ceylon sapphire from Sri Lanka in a royal blue colour, with several experts dubbing it one of the most iconic engagement rings of all time.

Stephanie Tyler, of Purely Diamonds, said: “Diana’s engagement ring is truly a beautiful piece of jewellery.

“It’s a 12-carat oval cut Ceylon sapphire, set in 18-karat white gold and has an estimated value of £300,000 today.”

Nizam of Hyderabad necklace – £66million

Next on the list is the princess’s most extravagant and most expensive piece of jewellery she’s ever worn – the Nizam of Hyderabad necklace.

It’s a platinum and diamond necklace that the Nizam of Hyderabad gifted to Queen Elizabeth in 1947.

Ms Tyler said: “The Nizam of Hyderabad necklace is a truly delicate and extravagant piece.

“It features 13 emerald-cut diamonds and a pear-shaped centre diamond and is rumoured to be the Royal family’s most expensive piece, estimated at around £66million.”

Cartier Halo tiara – £1million

The Princess of Wales wore a Cartier Halo tiara which featured 739 brilliant-cut diamonds as well as 149 baguette diamonds for her wedding to Prince William in 2011

The tiara is believed to have been passed down through generations and worn by both Princess Margaret and Princess Anne.

The expert said: “The Cartier halo tiara is one of Kate’s most iconic and delicate jewellery pieces.

“It features 739 brilliant-cut diamonds and 149 baguette diamonds and has an estimated value of around £1 million, making it the ultimate princess tiara that many girls dream of.”

Cambridge Lovers Knot Tiara – £1million

Named of of Princess Kate’s “favourite” tiaras, the Cambridge Lovers Knot Tiara is one of the Royal family’s most treasured pieces.

The stunning piece was made in 1914 by royal jeweller Garrard for Queen Mary of Teck – the late Queen Elizabeth’s grandmother.

The expert said: “The Cambridge Lovers Knot tiara is a beautiful piece of jewellery.

“Thanks to its brilliant craftsmanship and rich history, it’s estimated to be worth over £1 million.”

Maple Leaf Brooch – £100,000

Meanwhile, Kate has worn another iconic piece of jewellery, this time said to be one of Queen Elizabeth’s favourites.

The late Queen’s Canadian brooch, the Maple Leaf brooch, was passed down to her from her mother, over half a century ago.

In 1939, King George VI bought the sparkling gift from Asprey of London before he headed on a Royal tour to Canada and gave it to his wife, the Queen Mother.

The expert said: “The maple leaf broach is made from platinum and covered in diamonds in the shape of Canada’s distinguishable emblem.

“Its expert craftsmanship and story mean that it is estimated to be worth around £100,000.”

New Zealand Fern Brooch – £25,000

Another brooch that stands out in Kate’s collection is the New Zealand Fern brooch.

The silver tree represents New Zealand and was gifted to Queen Elizabeth by Lady Allum in 1953.

Ms Tyler said: “The Princess’s selection of royal brooches are admirable and beautifully made, particularly the New Zealand Fern Brooch, made from platinum and encrusted with diamonds, with an estimated value of £25,000.”

Ballon Bleu de Cartier watch – £4,850

A poignant gift to mark their third wedding anniversary, the Ballon Bleu de Cartier watch was given to Kate by William in 2014.

The beautiful piece bears a resemblance to both his own and the one worn by his late mother.

The jewellery expert said: “Cartier is synonymous with the Royal Family, with many of its members owning multiple pieces of the coveted jewellery, including Kate.

“This watch, in particular, retails for around £4,850.”

Promise Ring – £2,000

The Princess of Wales’s special promise and eternity rings complete the list of her most iconic jewellery.

Kate’s promise ring was the first ring she ever received from Prince William when they were both students at St Andrews University in Scotland.

This ring features a rose-gold Victorian band the birthstones of both William and Kate – pearls and garnets.

Ms Tyler said: “Kate has been spotted wearing her promise ring, and it’s an extremely beautiful yet understated piece of jewellery.

“Featuring garnets of William and Kate’s birthstones, its estimated worth is around £2,000.”

Eternity Ring – £1,500

Kate’s eternity ring was gifted to her by William following the birth of their son, Prince George in 2013.

She is often seen wearing it in place of her iconic engagement ring.

The expert said: “There is a lot of speculation around Kate wearing her eternity ring in place of her engagement ring.

“However, from a jeweller’s perspective, it is most likely that this ring is more practical for everyday wear.

“Unlike her engagement ring, this eternity ring only has an estimated value of £1,500.”
