Selecting a Mother’s Day present often proves tricky. Whilst supermarket aisles overflow with seasonal flowers and mugs, these traditional offerings, though perfectly acceptable, can lack originality.
My partner, Katie, welcomed our son, Teddy, a couple of years ago, so last year was her inaugural official Mother’s Day. As any new parents will attest, raising a child demands considerable effort and commitment.
From emotional meltdowns to nappy catastrophes and exhausting nights to chaotic mealtimes, it’s certainly no walk in the park, yet these challenges are balanced by the most treasured moments imaginable.
Therefore, I was determined to find something rather special last year and was searching for a present when I received an opportunity to sample OK!’s Mum and New Baby gift box. Retailing at £34.99, the box contains over £220 worth of items, reports the Mirror.
Alternative beauty boxes exist that could serve as excellent Mother’s Day presents, including LOOKFANTASTIC’s Mother’s Day Beauty Edit which costs £50 and features £180 worth of products. That particular option receives outstanding reviews, achieving five stars from the five reviews left to date.
Glossybox also offers a “limited edition” Easter Egg for £45, containing “beauty treasures” from brands such as Iconic London, Rodial, and Medik8.
Katie shared her thoughts on the box last year, stating: “This is fantastic for new mums, as a gift or just a treat for yourself (and baby). It costs £49.99, (now £34.99) but you get £220 worth of products, all of which are useful postpartum and beyond.
“It has been hard finding time for myself after having a baby to care for, plus everything else that comes with motherhood. This box was ideal for me as it includes not only skincare and a lovely candle to help me relax but also products to use on my baby – massage balm, body lotion and nappy cream.
“The candle smells like a luxury spa. It resulted in lots of compliments from guests. Given the price, it is worth it for just the candle and massage balm alone. My only slight issue is the baby body lotion doesn’t smell like I was expecting and was a little bit sticky once dried, however, the midwife expert’s massage balm was lovely and soft on my baby’s skin. You only get two free pouches of nappy cream, so I can’t comment that they are better than other brands in the long run.
“I use the cleansing and toner each morning, followed by the moisture balm (which smells absolutely lovely) which makes it an easy routine for me whilst my baby is in his playpen. The cleanser is nice and simple to use and has a lovely feel to the skin.
“When used with the Liz Earle toner, it makes for a great combination. The routine only takes me five minutes, too. I wouldn’t buy the small bottle of toner again on its own as I noticed little difference in smell or use than supermarket brands, however it’s a great addition to the box.”
The set arrives beautifully packaged and resembles a miniature collection of treats. She’s far from alone in her enthusiasm for it.
Out of 28 customer reviews posted thus far, 23 awarded the maximum five stars.
One delighted purchaser shared: “Fantastic gift for a baby shower or to celebrate a baby’s birth. Fantastic value. The candle alone would almost have cost the same as the box.”
Another added: “A really caring and fabulous gift for a new mum and baby…. lovely to have something for both of them and amazing value.”
A third said: “I bought this for my daughter who is soon to be a mum. The contents are fabulous and mainly full sizes. Absolutely delighted.”
A critical review received anticipated more baby-focused items, saying: “Not a great choice of products for baby.” Another noted: “Overall very happy with the contents but disappointed that the OK Magazine voucher for four free copies expired December so couldn’t be redeemed.”
