Police responded to a second shooting in less than two days near the Clémenceau metro station in Brussels on Thursday.

According to the Brussels Public Prosecutor’s Office, one person was injured in the incident and transferred to hospital.

Prosecutor Julian Moinil told RTBF radio that the shooting took place overnight at around 3am CET, and that the perpetrator used a handgun.

Authorities have sent a team to the site to investigate.

The incident is the second in two days near the Clémenceau metro station. It is not yet clear whether the two are directly related, but both are suspected to be linked to territorial disputes between drug gangs.

“In 24 hours we had three shootings: two in Anderlecht and one in Saint-Josse-ten-Noode,” Moinil said. “We don’t know who we are dealing with.”

On Wednesday, two metro lines and several tram lines were temporarily suspended after police huntedunderground for masked gunmen.

Images from surveillance cameras showed two people carrying Kalashnikov assault rifles opening fire outside the station before fleeing into the tunnels.

The suspects have yet to be caught.
