You probably know New Look for its affordable fashion pieces, and now I’ve spotted a pair of trainers that mimic a high-fashion designer pair but for a cut of the price. New Look’s tan suede lace-up trainers, priced at £39.99, the trainers look a lot like an autumnal pair of trainers from Prada that retail for £730.
Much like the Prada trainers, the New Look shoes have a low-profile shape with a rounded toe. They also both have a thin sole, fine stitching detail and contrasting white laces. While designer pairs are made from calfskin leather emblazoned with the brand logo, New Look’s are made from split cow suede. The overall effect, however, is strikingly similar.
The Prada shoes have leather inserts and a leather-covered insole, whereas New Look describes the trainers as having heel-to-toe padding and extra cushioning from a foam lining. As a result, according to shoppers, the high-street pair are comfortable to wear. One shopper’s review said: “Super comfortable, cute styling. I have had lots of positive comments, even from passers by!”
The Prada shoes start in a smaller size, ranging from 2.5 to 8.5. New Look’s, on the other hand, range from 3 to 9. One review reads: “Love the fit and brown is the new trend for the autumn.”
However, one review noted that the shoes felt a little narrow. They said: “These are lovely trainers, soft, padded and comfortable. I marked them down as they are a bit tight in sizing—maybe because they are slightly narrower. “
New Look also sells the same design in leopard print, while Prada offers its luxury pair in stone and tan.
Unsurprisingly, the biggest distinction between the two comes down to price. At £39.99, New Look’s trainers are more than £690 cheaper than Prada’s.
I think these are a great versatile option that can be dressed up or down. And while they are in an autumnal brown shade, I think they’ll easily transition into the spring and summer months.
They can be worn with jeans and a T-shirt for a relaxed look, styled with tailored trousers for something smarter, or paired with skirts and dresses.
New Look and Prada aren’t the only brands championing brown hues for autumn. Boden and Whistles have also introduced similar trainers to their seasonal collection.
