Emily Henry is arguably one of the most important authors right now. Her adult romance novels have been a huge success, each release becoming a bestseller instantly. But now, five of her books have been optioned for adaptation for film and TV. The first to be released is People We Meet on Vacation, which is coming to Netflix in January, and fans can’t wait.

People We Meet on Vacation is an upcoming romantic comedy film directed by Brett Haley from a screenplay by Yulin Kuang, based on the 2021 novel of the same name by Henry. It stars Emily Bader, Tom Blyth, Lukas Gage, Jameela Jamil, Alan Ruck, and Molly Shannon.

The movie’s plot reads: “Free-spirited Poppy and routine-loving Alex have been unlikely best friends for a decade, living in different cities but spending every summer vacation together. The careful balance of their friendship is put to the test when they begin to question what has been obvious to everyone else — could they actually be the perfect romantic match?”

The trailer has now been released, and fans have been commenting in anticipation.

One explained: “I’m seated. The theatre employees are scared and asking me to leave because it’s ‘not January 9, 2026 yet’ but I’m simply too seated.”

Another expressed: “Thank you, Emily Henry, thank you, Emily Bader, and thank you, Tom Blyth, for making the movie of the year.”

“Everyone say thank you to Emily Henry for saving the romcom genre,” added a third.

A fourth said: “I am so excited.”

People We Meet on Vacation will arrive on Netflix on January 9, 2026.
