It’s that time of year when everyone seeks a brilliant new film to stream on Netflix as the nights become chilly and gloomy.

Nevertheless, if Christmas classics like Love Actually and The Holiday aren’t to your taste, then you’ll be delighted to discover that the platform has additional fresh offerings that don’t feature Father Christmas and his reindeer.

Jay Kelly is a 2025 comedy-drama directed by Noah Baumbach which is making its way onto Netflix this week.

The storyline centres on Jay Kelly, a renowned actor, who contemplates his life decisions, relationships, and heritage whilst journeying through Europe with his long-standing agent.

The movie has been characterised as a ‘coming-of-age’ tale for adults, yet, alongside the storyline, cinema enthusiasts are equally thrilled to view the production due to its stellar cast.

Besides featuring Hollywood heavyweight George Clooney as Jay Kelly, the picture also showcases comedy icon Adam Sandler portraying his agent Ron.

Numerous viewers are ecstatic about this unexpected duo collaborating, with one individual commenting: “Never would I have imagined Adam Sandler and George Clooney acting in the same movie. Looking forward to this.”

Another contributed: “This is actually the first time I’ve seen these two together in a movie.”

A third remarked: “Adam Sandler and George Clooney together are out of this world! ! Can’t wait to see it.”

Whilst a fourth penned: “Who would have thought 30 years ago when Adam was on SNL that one day every A-list celebrity would end up working for him at some point.”

Some were simply thrilled to witness Clooney back in action, with one admirer commenting: “George Clooney feels like an actor straight out of the Golden Age of Hollywood, his expressions, his voice, his effortless charm. He has that timeless movie star presence you just don’t see very often anymore.”

Meanwhile, others found themselves captivated by the storyline, as another viewer proclaimed: “Noah Baumbach described this film as a ‘coming-of-age for adults’ which is something we rarely see these days. It’s refreshing to have a story that taps into that space again.”

Clooney has been earmarked for an Oscar nod for his performance in the picture following its debut at the Venice Film Festival in August, with The Times hailing it as the star’s “best performance ever”.

Beyond Jay Kelly, 64-year-old Clooney also appeared alongside Brad Pitt in 2024 action comedy Wolfs and portrayed David Cotton in 2022’s romantic comedy Ticket to Paradise with Julia Roberts.

Meanwhile, Sandler, 59, renowned for hits including Grown Ups and 50 First Dates, also featured in Happy Gilmore 2 this year.

Jay Kelly will be streaming on Netflix in the UK from Friday December 5.
