Netflix has just dropped an  Oscar-nominated drama praised as ‘one of the greatest movies of the 21st century’ onto its platform. Featuring Hollywood A-listers Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, and Justin Timberlake, the picture was written and directed by Ethan and Joel Coen.

The renowned Coen brothers are celebrated for legendary films including The Big Lebowski, No Country for Old Men, and Fargo. We are, of course, talking about Inside Llewyn Davis, which is now available to stream on Netflix. Initially launched in 2013, the period drama chronicles a week in the life of Llewyn Davis, a folk musician battling to achieve stardom in 1960s New York, reports the Mirror.

With Isaac headlining the cast as Llewyn, the picture delves into the harsh reality artists confront whilst chasing celebrity. It also examines hefty themes such as loneliness, loss and love.

The slice-of-life dramedy garnered widespread praise upon its debut, securing Academy Award nominations for Best Cinematography and Best Achievement in Sound. Beyond the Academy, Rotten Tomatoes critics awarded the drama an outstanding 92 per cent rating.

Their critics’ consensus says: “Smart, funny, and profoundly melancholy, Inside Llewyn Davis finds the Coen brothers in fine form.” General cinema-goers were equally captivated by the 2010s triumph, with one reviewer declaring: “I loved this movie, start to finish. One of the best films I have seen in years.”

One fan took to Google Reviews and wrote: “I’m convinced it’s the best film by the Coen brothers and one of the greatest of the 21st century.” Another echoed this sentiment, stating: “One of the most underappreciated movies ever made. A Coen bros gem and Oscar Isaac absolutely nails his performance. It’s one a best stories ever told.”

A third chimed in with a recommendation for future viewers, saying: “Like all great films, it gets better with every viewing.” Another movie enthusiast shared their thoughts on IMDb, writing: “This is one of the darkest, bleak, and unforgiving movies I’ve ever seen. But it’s also beautiful. Nothing short of a masterpiece.”

Finally, a cinema lover commented: “Oscar Isaac gives his best performance ever and is completely absorbed into the character; he is like a slow motion traffic accident from which you can’t and won’t want to look away.”
