Prime Video has just added a ‘truly unnerving’ horror film with an ending that left viewers utterly gobsmacked.

Good Boy, now available on the Amazon platform, is a Norwegian-produced film originally released in 2022 in its home country and in 2023 in other markets.

Those who have watched it concur that it’s a disturbing viewing experience that many can’t tear their eyes away from, making it a must-watch for dedicated horror enthusiasts.

The storyline revolves around a woman named Sigrid, who believes she’s found her ideal partner in the charismatic and attractive Christian. However, like most situations, there’s a catch.

It appears that Christian shares his home with a man who behaves and dresses like his pet dog. Despite this oddity, Sigrid maintains the relationship but starts to sense a sinister undertone to Christian.

Perhaps ‘puppy play’ isn’t as harmless as it first appears. The film marks the feature debut of rising Scandinavian filmmakers Viljar Bøe and Karl Oskar Åsli, reports the Mirror.

This film should not be mistaken for another upcoming horror title also named Good Boy. That one, slated for release sometime in 2025, follows a real dog who can see the spirits haunting his owners.

The 2022/2023 title, however, is now accessible for those with an Amazon Prime subscription on the retail giant’s streaming platform. It boasts a 94% rating on the website Rotten Tomatoes, with many critics highlighting its disturbing nature and effectiveness as a psychological horror.

One reviewer declared: “Genuinely uncomfortable and a fantastic portrayal of abusive relationships, both within kink-focused relationships and more mainstream ones, with a closing scene guaranteed to disturb to the core.”

Another contributed: “A terrifying twist on the notion of man’s best friend, Good Boy repeatedly morphs into a new, terrifying breed of horror film that leaves the audience pulling at the end of their leash to break free from the unbearable tension and whiplash narrative.”

One critic wrote: “In essence, Good Boy is a messed up story about power and privilege, and whilst it decides not to satisfy every question you might wish to ask, it nonetheless does enough to make those questions run around in your head after viewing.”

Horror enthusiasts were equally captivated. Expressing their views online, one wrote: “Excellent acting and dialogue. I couldn’t take my eyes off of it. Although I wish there was more background on the main character it was still a good ride. The final scene left me speechless.”

Another offered a straightforward endorsement for viewing it. They remarked: “This gave me goose bumps. A really good movie if you like to get scared or disturbed, I honestly liked the experience.”

Meanwhile, someone else hinted that either the audience or filmmakers might require professional assistance.

They observed: “Therapy is needed… this movie was messed up in SO SO SO many ways and I loved it… the writers might need therapy but crazy outcome.”

Good Boy is streaming on Prime Video.
