If you’re looking for a gripping film to watch this winter, there’s one that can’t be missed. This crime thriller one has been named as one of the “best movies of all time” by Rotten Tomatoes.

With the nights turning darker and colder, there’s no better time to cosy up at home with a good film. One person on IMDb says the film is “a masterpiece in every respect”.

This 1997 film follows the story of corruption growing in 1950s Los Angeles. L.A. Confidential follows the story of three policemen who investigate a series of murders with their own brand of justice.

Each man carries his own demons and motivations as they navigate the dangerous world of LAPD, struggling with ambition, guilt, and the blurred lines between justice and the law, says Plot Explained.

L.A. Confidential has kept audiences entertained for decades and it became a 1990s crime classic.

One person on IMDb said: “One of the greatest films ever made, L.A. Confidential benefits from a great script (Brian Helgeland), great performances (Kevin Spacey, Russell Crowe, Guy Pearce, Kim Basinger, James Cromwell, Danny DeVito, David Straithairn), and great direction (Curtis Hanson).”

The film was originally based on a crime drama but large amounts of the novel had to be taken out for the film.

According to All the Right Movies, the script underwent numerous revisions before it made it to the screen.

There are also some key changes between the film and the book. The book is set over a longer period of time – seven years between 1951 and 58, whereas the film is set across several months.

Starring James Ellroy, Brian Helgeland and Curtis Hanson, film fans old and new have maintained a love for L.A. Confidential.

If you’re hoping to watch the film, you can find it on Amazon Prime.
