Whether we care to admit it or not, many of us are trying to reverse the pesky signs of ageing, one way or another – from wrinkles on foreheads to crows feet or dull skin. From using a retinol cream at night to keeping our skin hydrated with all the serums and moisturisers, or treating ourselves to a fancy gadget that promises a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles without really doing much.
LED face masks have grown in popularity over the last few years and their benefits are wide spread. From acne and redness to fine lines and scarring, these LED gadgets have a multitude of settings using light therapy to gradually improve the appearance and quality of skin over a number of uses – including ageing.
Usually these skincare gadgets are a bit of an investment, costing a couple hundred quid. But we’ve found a deal on the Silk’n Exclusive Facial LED Mask 100 Pink at LookFantastic, which sees £60 knocked off its price, meaning it’s now less than £100.
Costing £160 normally, the Facial LED Mask from Silk’n Exclusive is now £99.99 and has an impressive five star rating from shoppers who have snapped it up.
The mask comes with four different LED modes (red, blue, yellow and purple) covering the bases of anti-ageing, blemishes and pores, brightening, redness, soothing and radiance.
LookFantastic describes: “The 4-in-1 face mask is equipped with 100 LEDs with 300 LED bulbs. Red light reduces the appearance of fine lines, while blue light combats breakout-related redness and blemishes. Yellow light lends a soothing effect, and purple light encourages a radiant glow.”
The mask itself covers the surface of the face and is secured at the back of the head with straps. It has holes for the eyes, nose and mouth as well a ears to ensure a comfortable fit too. What’s more is it has two modes, manual and automatic. The former for targetted use on one concern, the latter for a complete session using all four colours.
At £99.99, it’s one of the most affordable on the market at the moment, with other popular models including Current Body’s LED Red Light Therapy Face Mask: Series 2, which retails at a more eye-watering £399.99. Promoting less lines and wrinkles and firmer, brighter and smoother skin in just four weeks, the Current Body face mask has an added chin strap for better, full-face light coverage, as well as a makeup with flexible liquid silicone to contour to every face.
Speaking on Current Body’s website, Dr. Ayah, who runs a clinic in Harley Street, London, shared the dermatological benefits of LED face mask, especially the Series 2 device, and said: “What I’ve found is that medical-grade LED (light-emitting diode) therapy is one of the best ways to tackle a wide range of these common skin concerns. And it’s not just me; it’s actually shown within scientific literature.
“If you’re wondering, ‘do LED face masks work?’ Yes. LED is a real gamer changer, depending on the wavelength.
“Red and near-infrared wavelengths focus on wound healing, collagen production (your body’s natural anti-ageing protein) as well as redness and inflammation. Blue light is especially good at eliminating the bacteria that causes blemishes from your skin’s surface, while controlling oiliness and pore size.”
Another device that have received accolades from beauty buffs is the Shark CryoGlow Under-Eye Cooling & LED Anti-Ageing & Blemish Repair Mask, £299.99. Its four dermatologist-inspired treatments focus respectively on wrinkle reduction, blemishes, and brightness. But it also has a mode to soothe under-eyes with its Instachill Cold Technology, reducing puffiness in minutes.
One shopper who purchased this product raved: “Within a week I noticed the difference in my skin tone and around my eyes how much of an improvement my skin looked. I looked at various other LED masks but was so glad that I chose the Shark product. So glad I have invested in this product, it has also given me so much confidence in myself.”
Although for those who can’t quite fork out almost £300 on such a device, the Silk’n Exclusive Facial LED Mask in pink is great option at £99.99, and has had some high praise indeed.
One person shared their experience and said: “My skin after the first use was not greasy in the morning, my face looks better, less spots even as a 58yr old post menopausal woman…. Yes I still get spots. Even my mum said I had less lines on my face.”
Another mused: “Absolutely in love with this new mask, this colour is so good! Most masks have a plain white colour, but this is so much better. Also the quality of the mask feels really good. The material feels soft on my sensitive skin. The LEDs are really bright and I already received a couple of compliments on the glow of my skin. I think the price is also good, some masks are pretty expensive, while doing the same, but this one is way more affordable.”
A third noted: “Wow, this color is stunning! Perfect mask which fits well and is really a steal compared to other masks.”
While it’s out of stock in white on LookFantastic, the mask – which utilises a corded remote to control the mode – is also available at Debenhams here in this shade if that’s better suited, and it’s on sale for £94.24 with the code BEAUTY5.
Although most people echoed the comments on LookFantastic, with one person commenting: “I LOVE this mask! I’ve always said that Silk’n products truly do what they say, and it’s no different with this mask. After two weeks I’ve noticed a big difference – smaller wrinkles are almost gone, my skin is glowing and just looks so much better! Can’t wait to see after a few months”, some were left disappointed in a few things.
“Does not come close to the bottom half of the face – not made to hug the face like the molded models,” said one ‘disappointed’ shopper. Another echoed: “The only 2 things I don’t like about this product is that it doesn’t cover my whole face, it covers majority of it, but under my top hairline is exposed no matter how much adjust it. The other thing I didn’t care for are the straps. The velcro for all the straps isn’t long enough for me to tighten as much as I want.”
