The third instalment of the popular heist Hollywood film franchise, Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, has made its grand debut in cinemas, reports the Mirror.
The latest chapter welcomes back the magical quartet known as the Four Horsemen, featuring Jesse Eisenberg as J. Daniel ‘Danny’ Atlas, Woody Harrelson as Merritt McKinney, Dave Franco as Jack Wilder, and Isla Fisher as Henley Reeves.
Set a decade after the initial heist, the new Now You See Me film introduces three fresh magicians impersonating the Four Horsemen using deepfake technology.
During their magic show, they rob a corrupt cryptocurrency exchange owner and distribute the stolen money to the audience members.
Following their successful performance, Danny approaches the group and recruits them for a mission allegedly from the enigmatic magicians’ organisation, The Eye.
The trio of newcomers – Charlie Vanderberg (portrayed by Justice Smith), Bosco Leroy (Dominic Sessa) and June McClure (Ariana Greenblatt) – are tasked with stealing the world’s largest diamond from Veronika Vanderberg (Rosamund Pike), who runs a precious stones company involved in money laundering.
Now You See Me: Now You Don’t also sees the return of cast members Lizzy Caplan as Lula May, Morgan Freeman as Thaddeus Bradley, and Mark Ruffalo as Dylan Rhodes.
Is there an end credit scene in Now You See Me 3?
Indeed, according to Prime Timer, Now You See Me 3 does feature a brief post-credits scene.
The brief teaser hints at what lies ahead for the film series, suggesting another elaborate heist is on the horizon.
Dylan appears and reveals The Eye has assigned a fresh mission for the trio of new Four Horsemen recruits.
The fourth instalment was announced earlier this year, with production already underway and Ruben Fleischer returning to the director’s chair.
Fleischer previously said, as per Variety: “Directing ‘Now You See Me: Now You Don’t’ was as much fun as making any movie in my career.
“It combines two of my favorite [sic] things – heist movies and magic – and working with this incredible cast was truly magical. Of course I want to keep it going.”
Audiences must now wait to discover what The Eye has planned for the newcomers as they gear up to harness illusion, conjuring and sleight of hand for the greater good.
Now You See Me: Now You Don’t has garnered a divided response from reviewers.
The Guardian awarded the picture three out of five stars, calling it “fun fakery that fades quickly unless you’re an inexplicably hardcore fan”.
Meanwhile, Empire handed it two out of five stars, noting the suspension of disbelief “is taken to breaking point in this film”.
IndieWire’s assessment notes “while the film will certainly appeal to long-time aficionados, it’s also a fine enough entry for newbies”.
RobertEbert.com awarded the picture two-and-a-half out of four stars, observing it “turns into an everything-plus-the-kitchen-sink comic thriller” with a storyline possessing a “pinball-machine randomness” to it.
