A vet has revealed his favourite dog breed to treat as a patient, and it may come as a shock to some people. Everyone has their favourite when it comes to dogs, with some preferring small, affectionate breeds, while others are drawn to larger or more energetic animals.
Often called “man’s best friend”, millions of people worldwide welcome a pet dog into their homes, with the four legged companions quickly becoming cherished family members. Still, getting a dog is a massive decision and commitment, typically lasting 10-15 years depending on the pet’s lifespan. Dog ownership carries substantial responsibility, as they require constant attention, exercise, love and care from their owners.
People considering getting a dog frequently turn to social media seeking information and insight from owners and professionals alike. Veterinarian Dr Amir Anwary has amassed a devoted following on TikTok after posting regular videos to the platform where he shares his expert advice and recommendations.
Though lots of his videos are educational, he’s also recognised for posting more humorous or light-hearted clips where he can be seen dancing, or sharing amusing stories from his experience treating animals and dealing with their owners.
In recent footage uploaded to the platform, the vet revealed his “favourite” dog breed with his online audience. Dr Anwary can be seen facing the camera and moving in time to music as the question, “What is your favourite dog breed as a veterinarian?” added to the screen in text.
After a brief pause, the vet’s response also appears on screen – and it’s the Staffordshire bull terrier. In the caption accompanying the clip, he stated: “They have the cutest smiles I’ve ever seen and are so sweet! I’m in love with them! And how could you possibly not be!”
Staffordshire bull terriers are “known as a wonderful family pet”, according to the Kennel Club, with their “intelligence and affinity with children noted in the breed standard”. They’re a compact yet sturdy breed, boasting a muscular physique and a short, sleek coat.
Their strength is frequently highlighted, too.
In the comments section, more than 1,500 TikTok users were eager to share their views on the vet’s disclosure. Dr Anwary himself posted: “The smile melts me every time”.
One person shared: “As a vet assistant, 100 per cent agree. Staffies and pitties are my favourite patients.”
Another said: “Yes staffys for the win, my vets love my girl gets Cytopoint every month and doesn’t need any assistance just stands there.”
A third said: “Best dog breed” while a fourth commented: “My sweet staffy LOVES the vet.”
One TikTok user joked: “This was in fact the only correct answer.” Another stated: “I’ve never met a Staffy that wasn’t an absolute sweetheart.”
But someone else expressed a negative perspective of the breed. They commented: “I have had six dogs in my lifetime and every time they were attacked was by a Staffordshire terrier.”
To which, someone else responded: “My staffy was attacked three times in his life. Never by a staffy.”
Another person added: “The only bad dogs are [the] result of bad owners.”
Before getting a dog, it’s crucial to do your research and consider which breed is most suited to your lifestyle. Training is often essential, and not all breeds are suitable for inexperienced or first-time dog owners.
