Half of Brits cancel plans to stay in and to do nothing – and they love it

A survey of 2,000 adults has shown that Britons would rather stay in than go out, with 66% stating the comfort of their own home trumps a night on the town.

Around half (53%) find staying in more ‘peaceful’, and 48% relish the chance to relax completely.

More than half (52%) prefer solitude at home over an evening out and a significant 65% are scrapping social plans to enjoy some precious alone time.

While 45% want to spend a perfect evening with family, 24% yearn for quiet time by themselves, and 9% simply wish for the company of their pets.

Timotei commissioned the research, tying it into their podcast series A Gentle Start: The Showercast, a production meant to accompany a ten-minute shower.

For 55% of respondents, changing into comfortable clothes is the top priority, with others mentioning that 19 minutes is the primo bath time to kick off a restful evening.

For 29% of people, striking the perfect ambiance with candles and mellow tunes is key, while for 13%, such moments are their chance to beat a video game that’s been on pause for months.

Yet, a sizeable 74% confess they relish the prospect of having ‘nothing to do’.

Cleo Hector from Timotei commented on the findings, saying: “As we move from summer into the chillier months, it seems many Brits are keen to slow down and be gentler to themselves. Most are looking to boost their wellness routines this winter.

“With our new podcast you can unwind and learn about gentle living from inspirational women like Laura Whitmore and Martine McCutcheon.”
