With the Bank Holiday just around the corner, one gardening guru has shared the ‘only’ jobs you need to complete to get your yard is ready for the summer.

The gardening expert, who is known as @themediterraneangardener on social media, has taken to TikTok to share the jobs you should complete in April to get your garden up to scratch.

To start, he says: “Now is the perfect time to start cutting your lawn again, but remember not to cut too low, around 4cm is perfect.

“You might also want to aerate, scarify, level and lay seed to repair dead patches. Prune your hydrangeas making sure you’re pruning the correct way for the type you have.”

He recommends you should start to unsheathe banana and other exotics plants as well as protect the new shoots of vulnerable plants like delphinium, hostas and lupins from slugs and snails.

He adds: “It’s the perfect time to move perennials that are in the wrong place and while you’re there you can divide them to get new plants to fill your borders then give everything a good mulch to suppress weeds and improve the soil.

“Start sowing hardy annuals and sunflowers. And Finally, check your guttering on your home, sheds and greenhouses so that April showers fill up water butts.”

Thanking him for his advice, social media users have jumped in his comment section to share updates and ask questions about their gardens.

One user said: “I have dog wee patches all over my garden, how do I fix this? I tried reseeding but the seed didn’t take.”

Another user added: “What about the 30 ant hills in the back garden…”

A third user said: “Oh, sweet summer child. It was snowing in northern Europe yesterday. My mower isn’t a damn snow blower. No mowing until May at least.”

One more user added: “Currently digging out aggregate in order to have a lawn. Regretting life choices, but it’ll be worth it.”
