Flight attendant’s warning over ‘grim’ reason you should never use plane loo

Taking to the skies can be exhilarating, with the promise of your destination awaiting – yet wise passengers know there are air travel faux pas to avoid.

In a series of revealing TikTok videos titled “flight attendant secrets you need to know”, @cierra_mistt offered invaluable advice for a smooth flying experience, starting with a strong recommendation against “using the toilet paper” in aircraft lavatories.

But don’t panic – no awkward drip-drying scenarios here. Rather, she suggested travellers “use the paper towels” as a preferable alternative, because, as she explained: “It’s higher quality and it won’t rip or dissolve like the toilet paper will.”

Furthermore, she encouraged flyers not to dare “not walk barefoot to the bathroom”. The reason?

“I can assure you the liquid on the floor is not water and you certainly don’t want to be stepping in it,” Cierra cautions, leaving it to one’s imagination what that mystery liquid might be, reports the Mirror.

Reiterating just how infrequently those plane bathrooms see a scrub, she revealed, “Not to mention that bathroom never gets cleaned unless it’s bad enough that we have to close it off for the rest of the flight,” She also let slip that the post-flight cleaning crew “don’t do a deep clean like you think they do”.

Contrasting current cleaning practices to those during the pandemic, she stated definitively: “They only did that during Covid and the only things they really deep-cleaned were the tray tables and the seatbelts. Nowadays it’s more of a tidy up and getting the trash off the floor.”

In a shocking revelation, she also recommended against using the hygiene wipe handed out upon boarding to clean the tray table, suggesting it’s likely been cleaned already.

Ciarra urged travellers to concentrate on sanitising the window area, alleging that they are seldom thoroughly cleaned. Reacting to her advice, one individual remarked: “Sooooo planes are dirty, got it.”

Meanwhile, another admitted: “Oh sweety, I walk with hospital grade wipes.”
