Period drama fans can now stream a “provocative” film featuring a Dept Q star and Love Actually icon.
Based on author Evelyn Waugh’s classic 1940s novel of the same name, Brideshead Revisited follows the life of Second World War British Army captain Charles Ryder (played by Matthew Goode) who becomes entangled with the wealthy Catholic Flyte family.
At the heart of the romantic drama is his relationships with two of the Flytes, Lord Sebastian (Ben Whishaw) and Lady Julia (Hayley Atwell).
But the more time he spends with the Flyte family, the more issues arise from religious conflicts, class differences and a complicated love triangle.
Now period drama fans are able to watch the 2008 adaptation of Brideshead Revisited at the click of a button as it’s available on ITV streaming service ITVX.
Starring as Charles Ryder is actor Matthew Goode who was behind Carl Morck in the hit Netflix detective drama Dept. Q.
Goode has been in a plethora of other dramas before Dept. Q though including A Discovery of Witches, The Crown, The Good Wife and Downton Abbey.
He is far from the only familiar face in the film though, with his co-stars including Love Actually icon Emma Thompson, Black Doves’ Ben Whishaw, Harry Potter actor Michael Gambon, Mission Impossible’s Hayley Atwell and The Brutalist star Felicity Jones.
Fans haven’t been able to stop raving about the novel adaptation from 17 years ago, with viewers labelling it as “sumptuous and provocative”.
“The direction is absolutely faultless while the artistic amenities of the film, the costumes, sets, and camera work, are out of this world,” a viewer posted.
Someone else agreed: “Exquisite, simply and intrinsically beautiful. The portrayal is astounding and reflection is brilliant.”
A fellow user shared: “Brideshead Revisited is one of those epic films that travels the globe seeking adventure, finding glorious locations for telling a story, and offers a cast of outstanding actors to reexamine a tale known to most of us.”
Whereas another said:” I would recommend this film to anyone who enjoys a beautifully made period/literary production.”
Brideshead Revisited is available to watch on ITV.
