Domino’s Pizza has launched an urgent nationwide recall on two of their widely adored dips, following a peanut allergy alert, urging customers to discard the items immediately.
Over the weekend, it was found that traces of peanuts had contaminated some batches of Garlic and Herb as well as Honey and Mustard dips, leading the pizza giant to swiftly notify its patrons through email.
The University of Lincoln Students’ Union brought attention to the recall this Sunday (September 15) after realising the potentially affected Garlic and Herb dip might have been included in Domino’s goodie bags they were distributing, reports the Daily Star.
Issuing a stark warning, Lincoln SU stated: “Domino’s has just informed us of an urgent recall concerning the Garlic and Herb Dip that may have been included in the goodie bags distributed by the Students Union.”
For those with nut allergies, the SU cautioned: “If you do have a peanut allergy, do not consume this product. The supplier has indicated that the dip may contain traces of nuts.”
Domino’s communicated the seriousness of the situation in their customer email: “At Domino’s Pizza, the quality of our products and safety of our customers is the highest priority, particularly when it comes to allergens.
“We have become aware that some of our GARLIC and HERB DIP and HONEY and MUSTARD DIP may contain traces of peanut.”
This contamination concern affects both the large, 100g ‘Big Dip’ pots and the smaller 25g pots included with pizzas.
They concluded with a firm directive for those with allergies: “If you DO HAVE A PEANUT ALLERGY, please dispose of the dips and do not consume them.”
A spokesperson for the pizza giant revealed: “At the weekend, we discovered that some batches of Domino’s Pizza Garlic and Herb and Honey and Mustard dips contained traces of peanut which could pose a risk for people with peanut allergies.
“We have withdrawn all these dips from sale, and ask any customers who have people in their household with peanut allergies not to consume and instead dispose of any of these dips that they have at home.
“Domino’s takes food safety very seriously and we are working urgently with our supplier to understand how this happened and ensure it doesn’t happen again.
“There will be disruption to the supply of dips in the coming days while we wait for new supplies to arrive and appreciate customers’ understanding during this time.”
