A renovation expert and self-confessed budget DIY-er has revealed a handy hack to help you with interior paint jobs.

Taking to TikTok, Claire (@roseleigh_rose), revealed she’d spent just £2.49 on an item that has the potential to transform cheap doors into looking more “luxurious”.

In a video showcasing her work, Claire could be seen applying her trick to a white door in her home, applying coats of grey before going over it in black.

“I decided too use a £2.49 Tanning mitt to paint my cheap doors and try and make them a little more lux looking, don’t think it went too bad,” she penned in a caption alongside the clip.

Claire added: “It was so easy to do and it got the paint right into the grooves. FYI [for your information] I wore a plastic glove under the tanning mitt just in case.”

Zooming in on the results at the end of her video, she boasted the fruits of her labour – revealing a perfectly executed renovation project, with no sign of any slip-ups and a brand new looking door.

Scores of her 2,000 followers were quick to respond, admitting they were keen to try it out for themselves. “What a belting idea,” one person hailed. “I’ll be doing this… absolutely excellent idea.”

A second praised: “Oh this is fabulous, I am deciding to paint my door grey indeed of boring white and that a great way to go about. I will defo do this. Thanks.”

A third added: “It looks amazing just for a tanning mitt, made the grain pop out in door.” Whilst a fourth quipped: “Alright for doors and bannisters, but not for walls – be there all day.”

In a follow-up video, meanwhile, Claire applied her unconventional trick to her skirting boards too. “Following on from my painting my interior doors black I’m at it again this time I’m painting the skirting boards,” she wrote.

After removing the wooden frames, she once again donned her mitt before dipping it in white paint and getting down to work. Laying out each board carefully on a rasied surface, Claire rubbed the paint in restoring them to their glistening best.

“You have totally changed my love for decorating as single mature women doing everything myself,” one of her followers gushed in reply. “Clever idea,” added a second person.
