Streaming service Disney Plus has announced that the spin-off series for Marvel’s top-rated movie is arriving on the platform earlier than expected. Eyes of Wakanda, which follows on from the hit Marvel film Black Panther and its sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, is an original action-adventure series.

Disney Plus has shared an explosive trailer for the new animated show, produced in partnership with Proximity Media’s Zinzi Coogler, Sev Ohanian and Kalia King. The series “follows the adventures of brave Wakandan warriors throughout history”, according to the synopsis provided by Disney

It continues: “In this globe-trotting adventure, the heroes must carry-out dangerous missions to retrieve Vibranium artifacts from the enemies of Wakanda. They are the Hatut Zaraze and this is their story.”

It comes after the series was unveiled last month at Annecy International Animation Festival.

Fans have been surprised to learn that Eyes of Wakanda is making its debut much earlier than expected, with all four episodes set to drop on Disney Plus on August 1, 2025.

Taking to X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, Marvel fans expressed their excitement over the new trailer.

“Excited for this!! WAKANDA defo needed more exploration,” one wrote, as another agreed: “The fans are excited for this.”

“Finally, more Wakandan lore to obsess over,” a third person enthused, as yet another commented: “Very much looking forward to this.”

“The trailer gave me chills, holy…” one person exclaimed, as one more excited fan typed: “Take my money!!!!!!!”

“M A R V E L!!! you now have my attention,” another person penned, while one more simply wrote: “OMGGG.”

However, some fans were a little disappointed the show won’t be live action, with one complaining: “This should’ve been live action. We got Secret Invasion in live action but not this?”

Developed by Ryan Coogler and directed by Todd Harris, Eyes of Wakanda has a star-studded voice acting cast, which includes Winnie Harlow, Cress Williams, Patricia Belcher, Larry Herron, Adam Gold, Lynn Whitfield, Jacques Colimon, Jona Xiao, Isaac Robinson-Smith, Gary Anthony Williams, Zeke Alton, Steve Toussaint and Anika Noni Rose.

Ryan Coogler’s original Black Panther movie, which has a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, follows the story of King T’Challa, portrayed by the late Chadwick Boseman.

The synopsis reads: “After the death of his father, T’Challa returns home to the African nation of Wakanda to take his rightful place as king.

“When a powerful enemy suddenly reappears, T’Challa’s mettle as king — and as Black Panther — gets tested when he’s drawn into a conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk.

“Faced with treachery and danger, the young king must rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people.”

Eyes of Wakanda is coming to Disney Plus on August 1, 2025.
