Many people opt to adopt dogs when they want to grow their family, but there’s often a preference for younger animals as there’s an assumption that they’ll live longer.

But when one woman went to the shelter and asked for the oldest dog they had, people were left in tears.

Krissy took to TikTok to post the adorable montage of her senior dog, Jackie Lynn, admitting that she “cried” when she made the 37-second video.

She also encouraged prospective dog owners to “adopt don’t shop,” as she’d built such a fulfilling relationship with her adopted dog.

Starting off the video, she wrote: “Went to the shelter and asked for their oldest dog…and I adopted her.” Krissy said that she was “so well-behaved” when she went for her grooming before she went home with her new family.

The video then showed Jackie Lynn on her dog bed, surrounded by toys, saying: “I’ve never had this many toys before mum”.

A video clip of Jackie Lynn was then shown where she was making “funny faces” while she slept, and then it showed Krissy’s garden and other dogs. She wrote over the top of it: “Wow, I’ve never had such a big yard. I love you mum and my new family”.

Jackie Lynn could then be seen doing “happy dances” saying: “This is the real me now I feel safe with you”. She was also shown on a heated bed, which “helps” with her arthritis.

Jackie Lynn also loves to “bathe in the sun” with her brother, and she loves her “morning walks” with Krissy.

The video then showed a short clip of Jackie Lynn looking more than content lay on the bed, and Krissy had written over the top: “I can’t believe this is my life now, I feel so loved”. Krissy added: “We love you, Jackie Lynn”.

In the comments, Krissy received so much praise, with one person writing: “People who adopt senior pets are absolute angels on earth. You’re an amazing person”.

Another said: “This is so sweet!!! When I’m retired, this is what I will do. I’ll go and get the oldest dogs every time”.

A woman shared her similar experience, which received 16,000 likes on the social media platform. She penned: “Did this, he ended up having squamous cell carcinoma. I gave him the best last 4 months I could”.

Someone commented: “My sweet girl who was 12 just crossed the rainbow bridge, and she is a spitting image of your sweet girl with the exact same mannerisms. Thank you for giving her a special life from here on out”.

Other comments included: “Thank you for giving her the best years yet, I could cry,” “There’s a special place in heaven for people like you,” and “Stop, you’re an angel! This is so precious”.
