Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried fans have been given a first look at the chilling thriller The Housemaid.

Lionsgate greenlit McFadden’s adaptation of The Housemaid last year, bringing the twisted dynamic between a domestic worker and the lady of the house to the big screen.

The official trailer for The Housemaid has finally arrived, revealing its Boxing Day release on Friday, December 26.

Featuring Mamma Mia star Amanda Seyfried and Euphoria‘s Sydney Sweeney, the preview opens with Nina (Seyfried) offering a warm welcome to Millie (Sweeney).

She outlines the prospective housemaid’s responsibilities whilst explaining it’s a residential position – news that appears to catch her husband Andrew (Brandon Sklenar) off guard.

During Nina’s “grand tour”, a warped rendition of Sabrina Carpenter’s chart-topper Please, Please, Please provides the soundtrack.

The atmosphere rapidly becomes menacing when Nina assures Millie: “I want you to feel safe here”, before fixing her with an unsettling stare and presenting a key to secure her bedroom door.

What follows is a montage of disturbing scenes, including Nina furiously hurling crockery and shrieking inside her vehicle.

Police cars then encircle the Winchester residence, with their daughter visible in the rear of an ambulance – but what tragedy has befallen her?

The final shot shows Nina wearing a deeply unsettling smile whilst brandishing a bloodied glass fragment. The trailer for The Housemaid then takes us back to the start, as Nina and Millie bid each other farewell post-interview.

As Millie drives away and is out of sight, her smile swiftly disappears as she removes her glasses, suggesting a potentially darker intent.

One thrilled viewer took to YouTube’s comments section, exclaiming: “The attention to detail! As someone who has read the book, this trailer does justice.

“Here to watch Amanda Seyfried DEVOUR this role!” another fan chimed in.

A third remarked: “Whoever decided to use ‘Please Please Please’ for this trailer deserves a raise.”

Alongside Seyfried and Sweeney, The Housemaid also features 1923 actor Brandon Sklenar, 365 Days’ Michele Morrone and Soundtrack star Megan Ferguson.

The Housemaid premieres on Boxing Day, Friday, December 26, in cinemas.
