When you love to shop but don’t want to spend too much money, charity shopping is the way to go. The British high streets are packed full of them, all selling unique clothing, accessories, homeware items, books and so much more.
It’s also a more conscious way to shop, giving a new home to items that would have been discarded, all whilst giving money to charity. There’s no better feeling than finding a really good bargain amongst the rails, but one woman on social media has taken it to the next level. On a recent charity shop crawl, TikToker Thrifting With Em found a piece worth thousands — and paid a fraction of the price.
Emily, a bargian-loving mum who spends her time searching for good deals and reselling them, shared her “best charity shop find ever” in a TikTok video which has racked up more than 278k views to date.
As she headed in to Mercy in Action in Saltford, Bristol, she said: “I can’t believe what I found in this charity shop today. It’s probably the best find I’ve ever had since I started reselling.”
When you’re charity shopping, you need to be prepared to look for ages until you find a good bargain. Emily managed to locate just that — a Hermes two-piece, worth a staggering £2,900, with an £8.50 price tag.
Holding it up, she said: “I know it’s only January but this is my find of the year. I know it’s an acquired taste, but I had to pick it up.”
The two-piece set is crafted in a knitted fabric with a dark check print. It’s made up of a button-up longsleeve cardigan with a turtleneck top to sit underneath it.
People in the comments were in disbelief, with some not convinced that it was a genuine find. Emily added that the set was vintage and 20 years old, which explained the worn-out label.
One person said: “Is that Hermes real though? The label looks a bit shabby.” Another argued: “It is real, label is from Jean Paul Gaultier era at Hermes.”
Someone else in the comments said: “That is such an amazing find! What a great little shop.” Another wrote: “Omg that Hermes set is lovely, great find.”
However, this was just one of many bargains that Emily found in this particular charity shop. She also found a pair of Peleton cycling shoes for £15, when they retail for £120.
She also picked up a men’s Barbour wax jacket for £25 — an impressive 10% cost of a brand new one. Brands like Ugg, Harrods, Anthropologie and Monsoon also featured in this haul, so next time you feel like buying a new outfit but don’t fancy paying hundreds of pounds, it could be worth checking out your nearest charity shop.
