Much-loved shoe store Schuh within The Broadway Shopping Centre in Bradford has officially closed its doors. A representative from The Broadway informed the Bradford and Argus, “We can confirm that the Schuh store has now closed. We will be announcing new retailers soon.”

The closure marks the most recent update to the high street shopping centre, which is continually expanding its selection of fashion, leisure, and dining options. The Broadway, which first opened its doors in 2015, features over 80 shops, including brands like Primark, H&M, and Next, as well as a cinema and various restaurants. Although it is still unclear what will take Schuh’s place, management has stated that more announcements will be coming in the next few weeks.

The store boasts a 4.2 out of five rating on Google based on 221 reviews. Customers have commended the store for its welcoming and supportive staff.

One customer shared: “Excellent customer service by Akim in the Bradford store. He was so helpful, and we appreciated his expertise in helping us find a great pair of shoes for kids.” Another said, “Don’t often leave reviews, but wanted to share this one. I was served today by a young man called Callum, so my receipt says. His service, knowledge and genuine interest were amazing. Personally, I’ve always had good service in this store, but he really stands out. It would be lovely to see more sales advisors like him.”

A third wrote: “Absolutely amazing staff. Exactly, a lady called Maisie. She went above and beyond to try to get my daughter’s return shoes sorted. Was so patient. Even rang customer service to find my account. Absolutely legend.”

Schuh opened its first outlet in Edinburgh in 1981 and currently operates more than 120 stores in the UK and Ireland.

A spokeswoman for Schuh said: “The UK retail sector is undergoing rapid transformation, shaped by shifting consumer behaviours and in response, Schuh is evolving to strengthen its position for the future.

“Schuh is making strategic decisions to adapt, including the necessary closure of a number of underperforming stores, among them our Bradford store in The Broadway Shopping Centre.

“These decisions will allow us to focus on high-performing locations and enhance our overall customer experience.

“Customers can visit their nearest Schuh store in Leeds White Rose and Manchester Market Street, and from April 2026, a new Schuh store at the Trinity Leeds Shopping Centre. The full range is available to explore online at schuh.co.uk.”
