A self-made millionaire wondering how they can be a financial success has urged people to think about two things – a cheque and a gift card. Taking to social media to send the message to his followers, Mark Tilbury held a cheque in his hand that was worth a fortune.

Speaking on TikTok, Mark Tilbury, aka @marktilbury, began by walking through an airport. He said: “This is a cheque for $100 million and it’s got your name on it. I’m going to take it to the other side of the world. But if you don’t reach it within 48 hours, I’m ripping up.”

Asking viewers if they would travel to get it, he said they, without a shadow of a doubt, would. The 7-figure CEO said: “Of course you would. Even if you have absolutely no money, you’d borrow money, make money, negotiate and everything in between, just to achieve your goal of getting this cheque.”

With this in mind, he said: “If you want to get rich, it’s simple. Just believe there’s a guaranteed cheque waiting for you. All you have to do is put in the work to collect it.”

Many users jokingly replied to say they had reached the destination and wondered where the money was. One asked simply: “Where’s my cheque?” But he received plenty of praise, with another user saying: “Now this is great advice. Honestly, I love this guy.”

The millionaire has also recently warned about gift cards. In a warning on another TikTok video, he said: “Gift cards are basically a scam that everybody falls for. Americans have about $15 billion worth of unused gift cards, which means half the people who get a gift card forget to use them, and even if they do, most people never spend full balance or end up throwing in the trash.”

If the full balance is never spent, this is what brands call “breakage”, he explained. This is better for the companies, and in fact, the millionaire said that this is “exactly what they want because they can profit from the service they never provide.”

In his final piece of advice, he concluded: “So remember to use that gift card you have lying around. And always give cash because it’s the ‘gift card’ that you can spend anywhere.”

In the comments, one said: “How do people forget about free money” with another adding: “My parents refuse gift cards purely bc it’s not money – it’s just numbers and if the company goes bankrupt u have nothing.”

So what do you think? Do you like his mindset, and do you think gift cards should be avoided? Let us know in the comments.
