I watched the new Netflix Christmas movie so you don’t have to | Films | Entertainment

Every year, Netflix deliver a treat or two in the form of a Christmas movie. And this year, I took it upon myself to give them a go before you do, so I can reveal whether they are pure cheese (and not in a good way) or if they are worth the watch. The first film up is Jingle Bell Heist.

The 2025 Christmas romantic comedy film directed by Michael Fimognari, written by Abby McDonald, and stars Olivia Holt, Connor Swindells, Lucy Punch and Peter Serafinowicz.

The film’s premise reads: “Just before Christmas, two strangers, Sophie and Nick, team up to rob one of London’s most famous department stores, both to seek revenge on the owner and overcome financial difficulties, and in the process accidentally fall in love.”

I personally enjoy Christmas movies, but I do draw the line at cringe, which, sadly, some of Netflix‘s previous Christmas offerings have been. However, when I saw that Connor Swindells was starring in the festive film, I had high hopes.

Swindells’ career has gone from strength to strength since his debut in Sex Education, and quite rightly so. He is perfect in this Netflix outing, alongside American actress Olivia Holt, who shines in her role. The two bring together a joyful and wholesome film that will make you laugh and maybe even shed a tear or two.

The heist meets romance sees some pretty good twists and provides a little edge in comparison to the other films added to the Christmas feast this year.

Though it is by no means groundbreaking, the film is a cut above the other Christmas movies I have seen this year, and even in previous years, it is definitely my new favourite.

I do believe I will return to this film year-on-year as it is reminiscent of two of my most loved Christmas outings, Love Actually and The Greatest Store in the World.

The film has taken the top spot on Netflix globally and has had success in more than 70 countries, proving that it is a great choice for your Christmas viewing.

Jingle Bell Heist is available to stream now on Netflix.
