Tesco is giving away hundreds of Christmas trees for free this weekend – but only for one day at selected stores. Households are beginning to dust off the baubles. Christmas will be here before we know it, but not everyone has sorted out their tree.
Sadly, when it comes to real trees, the wonkier ones don’t always make it onto the shelves, but they’re just as lovable. It’s those trees that Tesco wants to find a home.
In select stores across the UK on Saturday, December 6, Tesco will be giving away wonky Christmas trees, with an optional charitable donation. It’s happening just in time, since a quarter of Brits pencil in the second weekend of December for putting up their Christmas tree.
The retailer is giving these trees a second chance at fulfilling their Christmas destiny as part of its “That’s what makes it Christmas” campaign.
With Britons’ favourite national holiday sometimes having less-than-perfect moments, Tesco says the unevenly spaced branches are a reminder that the small mishaps are what make the festive season what it is.
Four in ten will smash a bauble, according to a Tesco survey. Over a quarter of pet owners will see their trees pulled over by their furry friends, and over a fifth of people will finish decorating only to realise the lights no longer work.
Claiming the top spot on the nation’s festive fail list is untangling the never-ending string of lights (46%).
Tesco will be offering its perfectly imperfect Christmas trees across 10 stores across the UK for one day only:
