Fans have just days to watch a science fiction thriller that has been dubbed a masterpiece and flawless by fans. The 1996 film is scheduled to leave Netflix this month, meaning film enthusiasts should waste no time in watching or a few before it is removed from the streaming platform.

The Matrix stars Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss, Hugo Weaving and Joe Pantoliano. The film synopsis on Rotten Tomatoes reads: “Neo believes that Morpheus, an elusive figure considered to be the most dangerous man alive, can answer his question — What is the Matrix?

“Neo is contacted by Trinity, a beautiful stranger who leads him into an underworld where he meets Morpheus. They fight a brutal battle for their lives against a cadre of viciously intelligent secret agents. It is a truth that could cost Neo something more precious than his life.”

The film boasts a score of 85% on Rotten Tomatoes, where it is praised by both critics and viewers.

New York Daily News wrote: “Give [the Wachowskis] an A for effort and three A’s for those effects. The Matrix is a dazzlingly original visual adventure.”

Variety said: “An eye-popping but incoherent extravaganza of morphing and superhuman martial arts. Ultra-cool visuals that truly deliver something new to the sci-fi action lexicon will make this time-jumping thriller a must-see among genre fans.”

Despite its release nearly three decades ago, fans on Rotten Tomatoes remain impressed by the film’s quality. One wrote: “Amazing acting, action and visuals. It is a must-see classic no matter what movies you like.”

Another who watched the film just last month said: “This movie was ahead of its time. A classic masterpiece with quality actors.”

The film was even branded as “one of the greatest movies ever”, “groundbreaking”, and one that was “built to mastery”.

They added: “There is so much brilliance that went into asking some very deep questions about life, creation, and so many other spiritual mysteries. Extremely well done and highly enjoyable.

“This movie was so far ahead of its time that no other film series has been able to dig this deep on asking some very important questions. Very nice balance between story and integrating technical action scenes. Very well done. One of my very favourite movies of alll time.”

The last day to watch The Matrix on Netflix is December 13.
