There’s nothing worse than getting in your car in the morning when it’s cold, then waiting ages for it to defog. It feels like you’re blasting the heating on full with the windscreen setting on, but you still can’t see out of your window properly.
When you’ve got to drop the kids off at school and then get to work yourself, it can feel so stressful, and you know it’s not the right thing to do to set off before the windscreen has properly cleared.
Driving with an uncleared windscreen can lead to a £1,000 fine, three penalty points, or even a driving ban in the UK, as your view is obstructed.
So to avoid this, there’s a tiny device that you can place in your car, ensuring that the task is made a little easier first thing in the morning.
TikToker @sorbocleaninguk shared their “game-changer” hack that will prevent some of the moisture from taking hold and fogging up your windscreen in the morning.
They urged people struggling with this issue to buy a handy appliance, advising: “Winter moisture? Fix it with a dehumidifier.”
If you’re wondering where you can put the dehumidifier, they shared that one of the best places is “under the seat” so it can soak up the excess moisture.
Alternatively, you can pop it “on the dashboard”. This is convenient if you don’t have a passenger who wants to see out of the window.
Putting in this cheap and cheerful dehumidifier will prevent the drippy condensation film from forming on the inside of the window, allowing you to see clearly without having to wipe your windows excessively.
It is filled with moisture-absorbing materials, similar to silica gel beads, and it can also prevent your car from getting mouldy too.
According to Mick’s Garage, much like in your home, condensation builds when there is a temperature and moisture imbalance between the inside and outside of the car.
When your car is sitting out in the cold, it leads to warmer air being trapped in a closed environment, and this is what leads to damp smells and foggy windscreens.
You may also notice that condensation is a lot worse when you have passengers in the car with you, as there’s more moisture in the air.
It’s worth putting a dehumidifier in to get rid of excess moisture and to lessen the chance of your car getting mouldy too.
