Back in 2016, Disney released their anthropomorphic buddy cop comedy animation Zootopia (Zootropolis in the UK) and stormed the box office with over $1 billion.

Almost a decade on and the sequel has finally hit cinemas with glowing reviews and box office glory.

Zootopia 2 (Zootropolis 2) is expected to make over $520 million in its global opening weekend.

This could put the new Hollywood blockbuster among the Top 5 biggest opening weekends of all time, with Avengers and Star Wars movies.

Additionally, it will set a new all-time global opening record for an animated film.

Currently at No 1 is Ne Zha 2 on $431 million for an animated film’s global opening. Released earlier this year, the Chinese behemoth is also the highest-grossing animated film of all time, having grossed $2.216 billion at the box office. It’s also the fifth-highest-grossing film ever made, just behind Titanic. Perhaps Zootopia 2 will top it?

Zootropolis 2 is out now in UK cinemas.
