Ever since Claudia Winkleman’s fashion on The Traitors went viral, chunky knits and cable-stitch jumpers have shed their countryside clichés and become synonymous with cool and modern layering. This Supersoft Lambswool Cable-knit Jumper by Brora fits the bill perfectly – styled and worn by fellow TV favourite Clodagh McKenna, it oozes quiet heritage luxury.

Made in Scotland from spun lambswool, the rich cardamom hue and traditional cable pattern feel timeless rather than nostalgic, and will cost shoppers £245 directly from Brora. It also comes in marshmallow (a light cream) and in sizes eight through to 16.

It is a long line fit, with an average length of 73cm, Brora says, and has a roll neck with a ribbed neck trim and long raglan sleeves with ribbed cuffs. It also has cable knit on the front and back.

The piece is part of McKenna’s collaboration with Brora, and the Irish chef and TV star said: “This was the first time I ever co-designed a capsule collection. I loved every step of the process – creating the mood board, working with the designers, understanding the fabrics, creating the tweed, learning about new wools, perfecting the tailoring. All of it has been such an amazing journey.”

Speaking about her inspirations, she said: “My fashion philosophy has always been to wear the clothes that give you an inner vibe. I love the style of the 70s and 80s – high waisted trousers and jeans, white shirts, tweed suits, scarves for my hair, so naturally these were my fashion inspirations for my collection with Brora.”

The collection has a few pieces, and Clodagh said the marshmallow version of the lambswool cable jumper “feels like the biggest hug”. Wearing this jumper is about leaning into that understated heritage, so shoppers can pair it with a tartan midi skirt and slouchy heeled boots for a weekday look, or slip it over straight-leg jeans and chunky black boots for the weekend.

Clodagh also added of the rest of the collection, which has eight pieces in it: “I really wanted a high-waisted trouser that would pinch the waisted and give a long leg, and a matching jacket that was tailored at the waist.

“The elegant buttermilk coloured silk blouse with long cuffs and trimmed with an apple green pipping was definitely inspired from my time living in Northern Italy, the women wore such elegant blouses.

“The coat is so beautifully tailored, giving one such a beautiful silhouette. I loved how women in the 80s wore coats with silhouettes to curve the body. And of course, Ireland is always inspiring in everything I do. The jumpers are inspired from cosy windswept walks on the stunning coastline.”

For other cosy options on the lower end of the budget, M&S has the White Stuff Pure Lambswool Neppy V-Neck Jumper for £55. This comes in a blue mix and purple, and in sizes six through to 24. It has a v-neckline and the long sleeves have a dropped shoulder. It is perfect for dressing up a pair of jeans.

Additionally, Next has the Khaki Green Argyle Check Neppy Jumper for £45, and it also comes in a neutral colour option. It has flecks of colour that bring out the striped design, with ribbed cuffs and hem.

On Brora’s Instagram account, fans have commented on a picture of Clodagh wearing the Supersoft Lambswool Cable-knit Jumper, saying: “That is such a gorgeous knit”, while someone else added: “Stunning”.

While there are no reviews on Brora directly for the jumper, there is plenty of general feedback on Trustpilot, with one shopper saying: “I recently purchased a green liberty print dress for a wedding and it looked amazing. So comfortable to wear and fitted perfectly. Thank you Brora.”

Someone else said: “I have bought a number of items from Brora over the years. The quality has always been exceptional and oozes style and sophistication. I recently bought a Brora storage bag for my jumpers. It is strong and durable with a good three quarter zip. Being transparent, I can now see my beautiful Brora jumpers knowing they are fully protected.”

Another customer said: “No problems at all. Quality British products and fast customer care responses.”

Feedback from another person was: “Lovely colour, lovely design, nice quality. My usual size 16 was too big but size 14 fits me like a glove. Helpful customers service.” Sizing was mentioned by another shopper who said: “I love Brora. Their cashmere is second to none. I have ten year old cardis still in use and they wash really well. I have never had trouble with poor quality holey gloves either. My only complaint is sizing. A 16 dress is like a Boden 12/14 so I need an 18 in dresses whereas an 18 skirt is absolutely enormous and I could wear a 14.”
