When it comes to experts in their field, there is nobody who has seen more than professional cleaners. From every home trend that has come and gone, to items that are a staple in every household, cleaners have both seen and cleaned it all.
They have tried every cleaning hack in the book, which means that if a cleaner tells you not to use or buy something, you should probably listen to them. With that being said, a British cleaning duo, who post under the TikTok handle @thesparkleduo3, have put together a list of six things they would never put in their homes.
With years of experience, the pair said they wouldn’t use or place the items in their homes for a number of reasons, including hygiene, being useless or making homes smell.
They said: “Some of these things do have their benefits and everyone has their opinion, but these are some of my cleaning pet peeves.”
The first item was toilet mats which often come as part of a two pack with a bath mat in supermarkets. The cleaner said the item is “not hygienic at all” smell of urine.
The second thing the cleaners would not have in their own homes is matt cupboards. They said the cupboards will “constantly” have greasy finger marks and streaks.”
People shared their frustration about matt kitchen cupboards, with one woman saying hers ‘stress her out”.
She commented: “We have matt kitchen cupboards and they stress me out!! Any tips on how to get the finger marks out?”
The cleaner replied: “Use fairy liquid and water on a magic sponge, scrub and then dry with a microfibre cloth.”
The third common cleaning item the team wouldn’t place in their homes is a rim block in the toilet, which they described as “awful things.”
According to the cleaners, the items hold excrement and leave stains in the toilet.
Another item which has become more popular in recent years, it a silicone toilet brush. Although the cleaners agreed they are hygenic, they said the item doesn’t “actually work” and are “useless at effective cleans”
Another item the cleaners would not put in the bathroom is a toilet bin, due to them being “dust and rust traps.”
The final thing the cleaners would never install in their own homes is a matt black sink. They said “stains and marks are almost impossible to bring up”.
People were quick to ask the expert about her comment on bathroom bins, and what they should do instead.
One user said: “Genuine question surely, a toilet bin is a necessity for some as the alternative is carrying your used period products through the house to the kitchen. If I had guests they’d all be watching me bin my tampon.”
There were also mixed thoughts on silicone toilet brushes, with some commenters saying they loved them.
One person said: “I love my silicone toilet brush, but I also use it daily so no build up and use a rag and my hands to deep clean the toilet weekly.”
