It is a tradition to be enjoyed; however, perhaps it is time to find a new movie and expand your repertoire of horror films ahead of Halloween. Netflix is a great place to start, as it is home to thousands of films – 280 of which are of the horror genre.
WDW Bingo have crunched the data to reveal the best horror films to stream on Netflix now. Using review data, the research uncovers the best horror films on the streaming platform for their suspense, nightmare-inducing qualities, gore and more.
Two of the films featured are also due to be axed from the platform at the end of September you need to act quickly for the ultimate horror movie night.
The study ranks the highest-rated horror films on Netflix, including the goriest, most suspenseful, nightmare-inducing, and with the best surprise endings.
The data, which analysed all available horror films across Netflix UK, compared the titles against IMDB’s top 250 horror films before revealing an overall rating which combined IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes scores.

10. A Nightmare on Elm Street
A Nightmare on Elm Street is a 1984 supernatural slasher film written and directed by Wes Craven, and it is the first installment in the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. It stars Heather Langenkamp, John Saxon, Ronee Blakley, Robert Englund and Johnny Depp in his film debut. The film’s synopsis reads: “Several teenagers are killed by Freddy Krueger who torments them in their dreams. Nancy and her friends need to solve the mystery or they shall be killed too.”
9. Fright Night
Fright Night is a 1985 supernatural horror film written and directed by Tom Holland, in his directorial debut. The film stars William Ragsdale, Chris Sarandon, and Roddy McDowall. The film’s plot reads: “When a teenager tells people that his next-door neighbour is a vampire, nobody believes him. Therefore, he requests the assistance of Peter Vincent, a has-been horror film actor, to solve this crisis.”
8. The Conjuring 2
The Conjuring 2 is a 2016 supernatural horror film directed by James Wan. It is a sequel to 2013’s The Conjuring, the second installment in The Conjuring series, and the third installment in The Conjuring Universe franchise. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga reprise their roles as paranormal investigators. A summary of the film reads: “Peggy, a single mother of four children, seeks the help of occult investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren when she and her children witness strange, paranormal events in their house.”
7. Get Out
Get Out is a 2017 American psychological horror film written, co-produced, and directed by Jordan Peele in his directorial debut. It stars Daniel Kaluuya, Allison Williams, Lil Rel Howery, LaKeith Stanfield, Bradley Whitford, Caleb Landry Jones, Stephen Root, Catherine Keener and Betty Gabriel. The film’s plot follows: “Chris, an African-American man, decides to visit his Caucasian girlfriend’s parents during a weekend getaway. Although they seem normal at first, he is not prepared to experience the horrors ahead.”

Run is a 2020 psychological horror thriller film directed by Aneesh Chaganty, and written by Chaganty and Sev Ohanian. The film stars Kiera Allen and Sarah Paulson. The film has connections to other films by Chaganty and Ohanian and is the second installment in the filmmaking duo’s film series Searching. The summary reads: “Chloe, a teenager, is forbidden from seeing the mail and is kept in isolation. She soon starts suspecting her mother of keeping dark secrets and decides to investigate.”
5. Talk to Me
Talk to Me is a 2022 supernatural horror film directed by Danny and Michael Philippou in their feature directorial debuts and written by Danny Philippou and Bill Hinzman, based on a concept by Daley Pearson. It stars Sophie Wilde, Alexandra Jensen, Joe Bird, Otis Dhanji, Miranda Otto, Zoe Terakes, Chris Alosio, Marcus Johnson, and Alexandria Steffensen. The film’s synopsis reads: “When a group of friends discover how to conjure spirits with an embalmed hand, they become hooked on the new thrill and high-stakes party game – until one of them goes too far and unleashes terrifying supernatural forces.”
4. Don’t Breathe
Don’t Breathe is a 2016 horror film co-produced and directed by Fede Álvarez, who co-wrote it with Rodo Sayagues. It is the first installment in the Don’t Breathe franchise, and it stars Jane Levy, Dylan Minnette, Daniel Zovatto, and Stephen Lang. The film’s plot follows: “Three delinquents break into the house of Norman, a Gulf War veteran who is blind, to steal his money. However, much to their horror, they discover that Norman is not as defenceless as he seems.”

2. 28 Weeks Later
The UK’s favourite zombie franchise secured its spot in the top ten with 28 Weeks Later ranked second. Directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and produced by Danny Boyle, the film is the second instalment of the franchise, which saw renewed interest after the release of the highly anticipated 28 Years Later earlier this year.
As well as coming in second place overall, the 2007 film also holds the title for the goriest horror currently on Netflix, as well as boasting the best surprise ending, according to the research. This one is also leaving the platform on September 30th, so be quick not to miss out.
1. Barbarian
The 2022 American horror, Barbarian, took the top spot with a combined review score of 191.9. Added to Netflix in June 2025, the film is Zach Cregger’s solo screenwriting and directorial debut, who fans may recognise as the mind behind this year’s horror hit Weapons, which grossed $260 million across the world at the box office.
The film follows the story of a woman uncovering the dark secrets lurking in the basement of an Airbnb, with a feature role from long-time horror star Justin Long. WDW Bingo’s data also ranked the film as the most suspense-filled and nightmare-inducing horror on Netflix to stream now.
