Viewers and critics have been showering acclaim on a captivating new period drama that’s absolutely worth your time, following others who have savoured a “masterful” series and witnessed a perfect 10/10 Netflix production, reports the Mirror.
The picture had its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on September 7 and will be arriving on screens next month, including Amazon Prime Video.
On IMDb, one viewer branded the film “an exhilarating ride”, whilst the visuals were celebrated as “sumptuous and riotous”.
The user continued: “There is so much going on in every scene. The pacing varies from breakneck to brief respites of calm.”
They added: “I’ll be thinking about this film long after I finished seeing it. You can’t ask more of any film.”

A review from Autostraddle noted: “The film has all the discordance of a theatrical revival that stretches the edges of its famous text. DaCosta wisely leans into these imperfections.”
Hedda offers a fresh interpretation of Henrik Ibsen’s 1890 masterpiece Hedda Gabler, though it takes only loose inspiration from the original tale, frequently dubbed a feminine counterpart to Hamlet.
Top Boy, Candyman and The Marvels filmmaker Nia DaCosta penned and directed Hedda.
The narrative shifts from 19th-century Norway to a grand English estate in the 1950s, centring on the titular character (portrayed by Tessa Thompson) as she and her spouse George Tesman (Tom Bateman) throw an extravagant soirée.
Hedda finds herself striving to safeguard her husband’s prospects whilst preserving her elevated social position, yet complications arise with the unexpected appearance of her former lover Eileen Lovborg (Nina Hoss).
The cast of Hedda also features Outer Range’s Imogen Poots, Fortitude and This Town’s Nicholas Pinnock, Suffragette performer Finbar Lynch, Miss Austen’s Mirren Mack, and Top Boy’s Saffron Hocking, amongst others.
After its debut at TIFF, Hedda will arrive in selected American cinemas on October 22, before launching on Prime Video on October 29.
The streaming service has marketed the film as a “provocative, modern reimagining” of Ibsen’s theatrical work.
Hedda finds herself “torn between the lingering ache of a past love and the quiet suffocation of her present life”.
The synopsis continues: “Over the course of one charged night, long-repressed desires and hidden tensions erupt-pulling her and everyone around her into a spiral of manipulation, passion, and betrayal.”
Hedda will be released on Prime Video on October 29
