The forthcoming TV adaptation of The Conjuring is taking shape as HBO Max ropes in three writers with impressive track records.

The horror series, based on the popular franchise, has been under development since 2023.

Things are now falling into place for the streaming giant as Deadline confirms that Nancy Won will be steering the ship as showrunner.

Won boasts an impressive resume, having penned scripts for acclaimed dramas such as Little Fires Everywhere, Tiny Beautiful Things and Sunny.

She won’t be flying solo, however, as Peter Cameron and Cameron Squires have also come aboard as writers, reports the Mirror.

They’ve earned their stripes writing episodes for Marvel hits WandaVision and Agatha All Along, while Squires contributed to the successful Star Wars series The Acolyte, all for Disney+.

News of a Conjuring series first surfaced two years ago.

Billed as a continuation of the narrative set out in the films, Warner Bros Television is developing the series based on the New Line Cinema franchise.

James Wan, director of the first two Conjuring films, is producing through his company Atomic Monster, alongside Peter Safran.

It remains to be seen whether Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga will reprise their roles as Ed and Lorraine Warren for the new series. As of now, no cast members have been announced.

This news comes hot on the heels of a significant vote of confidence for the franchise.

The newest chapter in what is now a nine-film series, The Conjuring: Last Rites, debuted this past weekend and smashed records with the largest horror film opening of all time.

The film has also garnered glowing praise from devoted franchise followers. One ecstatic horror enthusiast awarded it five stars on Google, declaring: “The Conjuring: Last Rites is more than just a film-it is a masterful conclusion to one of the most beloved horror franchises of our time.

“Without a doubt, this chapter stands as the most gripping, terrifying, and emotionally profound entry in the series.

“It is rare for a horror movie to strike such a perfect balance between bone-chilling scares and heartfelt human drama, but Last Rites achieves this effortlessly.”

The Conjuring: Last Rites is in cinemas now.
