Roman fans love £65 ‘lightweight’ and ‘stylish’ raincoat

As soon as the first drizzle of autumn arrives, a reliable waterproof becomes a wardrobe must-have. Clothing brand Roman has a number of options available but this shower-resistant jacket caught my eye and is proving just as popular with shoppers who praise it for being both practical and flattering.

The jacket is priced at £65, but you can currently get it for 10% less with the code CRISP at checkout. It is available in black or navy and in sizes 10 to 20, and at the time of writing, all the sizes are in stock.

Design-wise, it has all the details you’d expect: a drawstring hood to keep rain and wind out, a zip fastening and popper storm flap, elasticated cuffs, and two roomy pockets. It also looks super-stylish thanks to its striking gold detailing on the poppers and zip. An adjustable waist helps give shape without feeling restrictive, while the fully lined interior adds light warmth without bulk. Easy to care for, the jacket is also machine-washable.

Shoppers say it delivers on comfort and style. One reviewer wrote: “Love this it’s lightweight and waterproof and stylish, the colour is great and the detail on the jacket is lovely really makes it stand out.”

Another person wrote: “This jacket is exactly what I wanted! The stud fastener trims gives it modernity. It is light in weight but not too light and I love the colour.”

Not everyone found the sizing quite as they expected, with a few commenting that it runs large, so it might be worth sizing down. But for autumn showers and unpredictable weather, it looks to be a solid option.

Styling-wise, both the navy and black are smart enough for office commutes, while easily working for casual weekends. Lots of customers mentioned how stylish the gold poppers and zip look against the fabric. Because the fabric is light, it should fold down enough to slip into a bag, which is super handy for the unpredictable British forecast.

At £65 (or £58.50 with CRISP), it’s a mid-range price compared to other high-street waterproofs, but shoppers seem happy with the balance of wearability and value. As one summed up: “Great jacket, exactly what I needed. Keeps me dry and looks good too.”

Another Roman item too good not to mention is the waxed longline hooded coat, which is available in a chocolate brown, khaki green or navy blue and sizes 10 to 20 in all shades. Priced at £99 it’s definitely an investment piece (although you can get 10% off with code CRISP) but it comes with rave reviews from shoppers. One happy customer enthused: “Great waterproof coat looks way more expensive than it was.”

It is machine-washable and has a longline hem and adjustable waist and hood, two roomy patch pockets, and an inner side space. Both jackets look much more expensive than they are and both have a look reminiscent of countryside brand Barbour, albeit, without the price tag.
