After it was recently confirmed that Tom Holland will star in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, the actor has opened up about the project for the first time. Tom will appear in the critically-acclaimed director’s follow-up to Oppenheimer alongside fellow Hollywood heavyweight Matt Damon.

Speaking about how he felt when he was offered the part, Tom said on Good Morning America: “When the opportunity came in, it was the phone call of a lifetime.

“[It was] reminiscent of getting that call about Spider-Man 10 years ago. It’s an amazing thing for me. I’m super proud and I’m really, really excited.” Despite being super excited about the yet-untitled project, Tom remained coy about the plot or details about his character.

He continued: “All I can say is that I’m incredibly excited and obviously honoured, but that’s all I can say because to be honest that’s really all I know.”

The project is being kept under wraps for now but it has already bagged a release date of July 17, 2026. Oppenheimer was a huge success for Christopher when it released last year, grossing a whopping $977 million on a budget of $100 million.

It looks like Tom will be having a busy few weeks in July 2026 as Spider Man 4 has just confirmed its release date for July 24, just one week after Tom’s release with Nolan.

It’s unclear as of this stage whether either film will be released on the proposed dates as the big-budget movies could be subject to release date changes.

Tom will be returning as Peter Parker/Spider-Man for the fourth time, along with his love interest MJ, played by real-life girlfriend Zendaya.

During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Tom let slip when production and shooting will begin.

He explained: “Next summer, we start shooting. Everything’s good to go — we’re nearly there. Super exciting. I can’t wait!”

Tom has played the iconic role in three solo films, Spider Man: Homecoming which released in 2017, Spider Man: Far From Home in 2019 and Spider Man: No Way Home in 2021 as well as appearing in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame.

All three movies were directed by Jon Watts, but this time around, Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton will be coming on board to helm the project.

Christopher Nolan’s yet-untitled film releases on July 17 2026, while Spider Man 4 comes out on July 24.
