Banish condensation on windows with £1.16 per item – not white vinegar

As the cold sets in and we crank up our heating, battling window condensation becomes a daily struggle. This common issue arises when warm, moist air hits a chilly surface, causing water vapour to turn into liquid droplets.

Good ventilation is key to preventing this moisture menace, but with soaring energy costs, cracking open a window isn’t always an option. Enter the “life-saving” hack discovered by one clever individual, which promises to banish moisture from your rooms and fend off those dreaded “horrible mould marks”.

Mould is more than just unsightly; it poses a real threat to respiratory health if left unchecked. Durham-based online content creator Gazza Thompson took to TikTok, where his 125k followers were let in on his secret weapon against dampness – and it’s not white vinegar, which seems to be a go-to for many tasks around the home. Instead, he recommends buying a condensation and moisture bag.

In a recent clip, Gazza divulged how his bedroom windows were once soaked with condensation every morning. But with this nifty gadget, he’s managed to maintain crystal-clear windows.

“The last two years these have been an absolute life-saver, and it’s as simple as hanging it up behind the curtain,” he shared. Gazza also recounted how before using these bags during winter, he would find “Before I started hanging these up in winter I used to get horrible, horrible mould marks above the window, but now since I [started using them], no more.”

He noted that the malfunctioning extractor fan in his en-suite bathroom was contributing to the excess moisture, leading to cracked paint on the walls.

He found a quick fix with the use of dehumidifier bags, which halted further damage to his property. He showed off a bag that had been hung for a fortnight, brimming with liquid.

“If that wasn’t in the bag it would be getting on the walls and the ceiling, and I’d be getting even more cracks in the paint,” he noted. “So anyone with condensation and moisture issues in-house, these are an absolute game-changer.”

These ‘life-saving’ dehumidifier bags are available on Amazon at a steal, priced at £13.93 for a pack of 12, working out at barely £1.16 per bag.

To combat window condensation, additional tips include letting the breeze in by keeping bedroom windows slightly open at night, not shutting curtains overnight, airing the room out when showering or cooking, and while drying clothes inside. Maintaining a gentle, continuous warmth through your house as recommended by Screw Fix can also work wonders.
