Log onto social media in the run-up to Halloween an you’ll likely see videos and photos of dogs donning a spooky-themed costume.
Data from puppies.co.uk shows that searches for ‘dog Halloween costumes’ have increased by 163% in the past month and videos of dog Halloween costumes currently have 143.3 million views on TikTok.
However, the experts at puppies.co.uk are advising against dressing up your dog this Halloween, stressing that some costumes are not suitable for dogs, and that our pets don’t understand dressing up, or the concept of Halloween.
And while this may seem like a fun trend, some of the experts are warning that it might not be quite so fun for your dog.
A spokesperson for puppies.co.uk. said: “While it may be tempting to dress your dog in a spooky costume this Halloween, it’s important to prioritise their wellbeing and comfort.
“After all, some costumes are not suitable for our beloved pets. Dogs don’t understand dressing up and some may find costumes stressful, especially if they restrict their movement or breathing.
“A dog is not an accessory and requires proper love and care. Instead of putting your dog in a costume, consider baking some spooky treats like pumpkin biscuits or creating a DIY Halloween-themed toy.”
