Most of us are happy to see a glimmer of summer returning with temperatures rising in the last few weeks, however, our hair doesn’t always like the hot, humid weather.

Many of us suffer with frizzy hair throughout the warmer months which can put a dampener on our summer plans. So is there a way to tackle frizz while basking in the sun?

Thankfully there is, as beauty booking platform Fresha has shared their five top tips to stop frizz getting the better of you this summer.

Rather than drenching your locks in expensive hair products or battling with your straighteners, the hair care experts recommended using some homemade solutions, including one trick using something you’ll likely have in your kitchen cupboard already.

Let’s take a look at Fresha’s five tips in more detail.

1. Use tin foil

Separate your hair into sections and grab some tin foil. Loosely wrap the foil around each section, then gently pull down your hair to smooth out the frizz.

Tin foil costs around 20p per metre from supermarkets including Tesco or Asda, and the metal helps neutralise static, resulting in glossy locks. This method works best for straighter or wavy hair.

2. Try adding coconut oil to your routine

The experts said: “Regularly using coconut oil in your hair can help reduce frizz in the long term by using regional masks.

“But it also works short-term too, since the oil stops the hair from absorbing water, which can help prevent frizz in humid climates. Add a drop of two of melted oil to your hair once dry to keep the frizz at bay. This will work on all hair types.”

3. Wash with cold water and add moisture

The pros explained: “Curly hair can often frizz more quickly in the heat, so try washing your hair with cool water as this will help seal the hair follicles from the start.

“To further lock in moisture and maintain your curl pattern, apply a curl cream or mousse while your hair is still damp. These products will help keep your hair hydrated, reduce frizz and prevent curl breakage by creating a barrier that retains moisture and defines your curls.

“For best results, follow up with a gentle hair scrunch with your hands to enhance the natural shape of your curls. Avoid touching your hair too much as it dries to minimise frizz in the heat.”

4. Sleep with a silk pillowcase or silk bonnet

“Switching to a silk pillowcase or wearing a silk bonnet while you sleep can reduce friction and prevent frizz,” the expert said.

“Silk is gentler on hair compared to cotton, which can help maintain smooth, manageable locks.”

Brush your hair through with a hair-sprayed brush after styling

Finally, the pros advised: “Not only will this help to set your style, but it will also tame any immediate flyaways. It will also help prevent your hair from frizzing throughout the day, keeping your look smooth and polished for longer.”
