A retail giant has announced its new major expansion across the UK. Within this plan, five new branches of the popular supermarket to open within 24 hours, marking an impressive start to the year.
Lidl has announced it will launch 19 stores in total over the next eight weeks. The expansion reflects growing demand for convenient and affordable food shopping. It will also bring new jobs and more choices to communities across the country. Is your local town on the list? Find out more below.
This means one new store will open every two days, creating up to 640 new jobs. Opening days will include free food samples and special Lidl prizes for shoppers.
The five stores due to open on Thursday are:
- Chester, Caldy Valley Road
- Calne, Oxford Road
- Dereham, Yaxham Road
- Havant, Purbrook Way
- London, Stamford Hill
According to the Salisbury Journal, a new Lidl store is due to open next week, on Thursday, February 29, in Churchill Way West. The new branch will neighbour Sports Direct and Waitrose.
These new openings show that Lidl is strengthening its position across the UK as a prominent store among its competitors. The retailer now serves over 60% of households and added £14.5billion to the economy in 2024.
Lidl is also investing £43million to upgrade 70+ stores across the country, from Dundee to the Isle of Wight. Stores will get new checkouts, bigger freezers, and energy-saving upgrades, such as efficient lighting and eco-friendly refrigeration, helping reduce environmental impact and support its Net Zero goals.
Speaking on the new store openings, Richard Taylor, Chief Real Estate Officer at Lidl GB, commented: “We’re starting the new year as we mean to go on, with a major investment that reinforces our commitment to delivering the best experience for customers and creating a positive impact for the communities we serve.
“With this push, we’re set on winning more shoppers across the nation and claiming an even bigger share of the market.”
